Under VirtualBox I got 1 version of Ubuntu with FFMpeg working and another with Shared Folders Working and vice versa so this is gonna take longer than I thought and I'm a bit busy, but I will get there I'm sure just don't know when

Finally getting somewhere but getting error
Unrecognized option 'hide_banner'
Failed to set value 'filter_complex' for option 'hide_banner'

Is this because the version of FFMpeg is not compatible or something?

My guess is your ffmpeg version is too old. Which version of ffmpeg are you using?
type: ffmpeg -version
The very first line contains the version number.
I am using version 3.4.6. The newest one is 4.2.2.

You can try to edit the file 'agaconv-script' and simply remove this option. It's just there for convenience.
Search for "-hide_banner" and remove this text (it's in lines 32/33).
If that's the only problem, then it could work. If it reports other issues, it may be too old to support the syntax for generating paletted png files and you need a newer version.

Thanks for your Reply, Yes probably an old version as I'm using Ubuntu 12.04 as I wanted to keep System Requirements low, Really struggling with Linux but I'll try Ubuntu 16.04 later.

Ideally I'd use Ubuntu 10.04 with very low System Requirements and have a updated FFMpeg but seems beyond me

Finally had some time used Lubuntu 19.10 from https://www.osboxes.org/lubuntu/
under VirtualBox on Windows
Lighter version of Ubuntu, quite nice and fast and easier Gui if your use to Windows
and a .CDXL was generated

@movec:
Will you someday compile a native version of AGAConv for Windows machines with a plain 32 bit CPU? Without the need for the Microsoft Ubuntu app? For standard Windows 7 machines, for example... They are really very good machines for emulation, that don't need internet connection like Windows 10 nowadays...

Are you pretending to compile a mini version of AGAConv for AmigaOS 3.x too?

What do you think of bundling it with proper ARexx scripts for popular apps like ADPro? For example, to extract the frames of a ANIM file as IFF images with ADPro and using the mini AGAConv binary to concatenate the IFF files to the end of CDXL movie. Back in the time many simple CLI tools for generating ANIM files for AmigaOS did such things.

I'm obviously missing something here. Why would you stuff around with VirtualBox and Ubuntu when you could simply download a Windows port of ffmpeg?

I currently don't have a working Windows dev system. I plan to eventually release it open source, such that people can compile it for whatever system they like.

Same as above, although for AmigaOS a few changes would be necessary. You still need ffmpeg for the respective AmigaOS (but see below).

I don't know ADPro. Can it operate in batch mode to convert a list of pictures or an ANIM file to a sequence of IFF files? If yes, you can already combine it with AGAConv (using a PC and an emulator, or copy the frame-files over the network).

AGAConv converts any list of IFF (or PNG) files and an 8-bit PCM audio stream into a CDXL video. It doesn't matter where the IFF files come from.

AGAConv-script ist just a small wrapper script that calls ffmpeg to extract all the frames and then calls AGAConv to encode all those files into a CDXL file. Therefore you can already use AGAConv in combination with any other tool that generates IFF files.

Thus, if you extract all the IFF files from an ANIM file with ADPro, you can already encode them with AGAConv into a CDXL file.

On a side note, AGAConv can also edit ANIM files - it can add a sound-stream to an ANIM file and turn it into a SNDANIM file which you can play with AnimFx (that's a left-over from the early days )

How do I use AGAConv without AGAConv-script
agaconv --in=?#.iff --out=myvideo.cdxl --fps=25 --frequency=24000 ?

Also SNDAnim what is the difference between this and CDXL?

just hit enter, it will show all the options then (or --help)

The major difference is that AnimFx cannot skip frames. Hence, if your system isn't fast enough the video will run too slow. I think it also doesn't set the FMODE register, hence, the AGA graphics hardware doesn't use 64bit access (only 16 bit).
It uses a delta compression for the frames, but it doesn't pad the frame data to 32 bit, hence the reading of frames might be slowed down on AGA systems if it reads chunks that are not 32bit aligned (they are 16bit aligned).

But if you have enough memory, it will read the entire video into memory and play it then. That's a nice feature of it. I got it to play an AGA8 video from CPU card memory at 25 FPS (for about 1 min), but it was too slow to play it from Zorro 3 Ram card memory at 25 FPS. With AGABlaster I can play it from disk at 25 FPS.

Thanks I'll check it out, this could be interesting because I could use the same Palette for each frame and stuff like that.

Use optical drive like CD/DVD and DVD DL (8.5GB - works correctly only with AllegroCDFS) give very good reults. That is my compare and results:
A1200 with FAST RAM in PAL, eide.device, CF card 16GB (2.6MB/s), 22050khz stereo:
320x256 - 17FPS
320x196 - 22FPS

A1200 with FAST RAM in PAL, eide.device, DVD + AllegroCDFS (2.1MB/), 22050khz stereo:
320x256 - 18FPS
320x196 - 30 FPS

These are interesting measurements, in particular because you get higher FPS on the I/O device with (theoretical) lower bandwidth.

Did you run any other I/O comparisons on these devices?

I tested this tool and it works really great on a CD32 + TF330 with an ide HDD (5.4MB/s)
Full 24fps for movies with 320x196 (16:9) or default format.
Problem is the file size.
Can agaconv-script split files to be not larger than 2Gb ? (PFS limit)
Then AGABLASTER could play automatically those files specifically named, for example
conv_1.cdxl then conv_2.cdxl etc... in order

Do you think it's possible ?

BULI has resolved the problem with DVD & AllegroCDFS but it's not possible to add DVD on CD32

Except the file size problem, this tool is really great.
Thanks for your work !

Hi Rochabian , i have posted one month ago in other thread about playing multiple file cdxl on the fly, it works good (only if you no go forward with the new feature of agablaster player ! , in this case, it will stop at the end of the video file and you will have to click on mouse), I same you, my CD32 don't accept DVD

my older post with video example and simple script:

Quote:

Hi CRG aka Glen M, I have just made a try for multiple CDXL and it's working good ! (low 320 and HIGH 640) thanks for your tips on your youtube video

[ Show youtube player ]

edit : oh, i've just notice that when the first movie is playing, normaly you presse LMB for stop but since there is multiple cdxl files, each time you click, you can go to the next "chapter" , nice feature
For cut the videos (I have made empire strike back entire movie, about 20 GB ! , 9 files), I cut the chapter with quicktime on Mac, very good tool, I cut back easily, but for a entire movie, it's a lot of work to be perfect and our demand for cut CDXL before would be nice option !

@movec : like you can see, I have my script working nicely but when I have some file of the movie in another volume disk, I cannot play after the others, it stop and said that he cannot found the right file, do you have a idea ? of someone ? thanks .
