I bought this nice, light & compact Smartphone recently, the E71. I appreciate the fact that it's more a "business" phone than a tactile multimedia all-in-one oddity.

The display is responsive but the screen is not very large, so I am not sure I will transfer a lot of Amiga stuff onto it, may be a retro-video or two...

Nokia guys know how to make sharp devices, obviously .

Only problem is the one I've got bears many boring logos and animations from one of our top 3 phone companies. I will have to go through the process of having it "debranded" at some place.

Am still on my lightgun trip:

Ordered Resident Evil: Dead Aim for PS2 and Arsenal Gaming Light gun today, all used.

I was very disappointed with House of the Dead III on Xbox. IMO it is far inferior to House of the Dead II gameplay wise. The levels are just boring and repetitive. And to top it off the unlockable complete version of House of the Dead II that is included has some serious and annoying slow-down, making it inferior to the Dreamcast version, which I will continue playing instead.

I am thinking of getting a dreamcast though. The Dreamcast emulators are not great and I've got all the hardware (except the console) and lots of erm discs

Anything to look out for when buying a Dreamcast?

Only insight I have about the Dreamcast is that Sega has completely ceased GDrom production. We have a shop here in Paris, which has everything you could think of related to the DC, including the most esoteric Jap goodies.

If you want my POV (I know you don't but still ), this delightful piece of Arcade pie can't be beaten when it comes to 2D fighting games & shooters. However, it shows its age for 3D stuff.

I take it you mean spare parts for the GD-ROM drive if anything goes wrong?

I bet it stands up against the PS2 and perhaps even the Wii just fine?

No alexh, I mean no more DC discs will be produced by SEGA, so the games available are all second-hand now.

Also, buying the console and downloading the games is not such a good idea as CD-Roms hold a degraded (compressed) version of the games resources.

Your best bet would be to actually try the console in a shop, if possible. The whole shebang (with controllers & accessories) will cost you more money compared with a PS2, especially if we consider making DC backups is out of the question.

To me, the wii is a much more convenient & powerful console but it lacks soul.

I was just going to use second hand or CD-R

That is not always true. But I know what you mean.

Heh, I was using a dreamcast before they even named it a dreamcast! I even have a Katana (failed 3DFX Voodoo based prototype Dreamcast) somewhere at home. I just never bought a retail one. When I asked for things to look out for, I meant are there any failure points? Different models to look out for etc. Ones with better GD-ROM drives?

I disagree, the modding community has made it come alive just recently. Try SCUMM-VM Day of the Tentacle or perhaps the port of Mplayer in 480p (576p?) with network support and you might change your mind.

It will take time for Wii to have homebrew community such as DC's one.

As far as dC, I'm not aware that there is any problems with CD-G drives similar to xBox DVD problems.

Here they go for 25 bucks for console and single controller. Memory units are anywhere from 99p to $2.99. I bought one for my cousin, crystal green edition.

I am not too sure about the Wii creators sanity, really. Moving the controllers above one's head like a demented doesn't make sense to me.

It was the same with the PS2, a friend of mine had it and cherished it, I never was interested to play it the least. I saw the DC in action some time ago, with such games as Jet Set Radio, and the "taxi" game. I was proposed the first Xbox at a good price... Still not convinced .

Only the gamers hooked to MMPORGs should get a console today, and it'd be an XboX 360 of course.

Are you referring to the homebrew scene ? (I wonder if these people are really given the same tools as the legitimate developers). I am quite impressed by the Windows Shareware community (check Mount & Blade ), these guys do deserve some praise too.

Last but not least, here is the link to the Shop I just told you about. I am sure the sympathetic manager would appreciate to have a new UK customer !

Today I bought: a new battery for my iBook, extra 512mb for my iBook and a new PSU for my iBook. Money has started to flow again if you hadn't noticed!

Deleauvive,

is there WoW for xBox360??

I'm not sure what you're talking about, but there is a lot of reasons to get consoles today, even retro consoles.

Are you under 35? Do you drink? Have parties? Are you single? Do you have single friends?

If the answer is NO to 3/5 then that is why you do not get the Wii.

What should the others get? PC's? Dont make me laugh. Most PC games are terrible. The hardware is too expensive. Too many games companies are dropping PC game development.

Yes.

Yes and no. They mainly made their own tools from open source projects.

Anyhow we are violently deviating off topic so if you want to continue I suggest we move to another thread.

Make sure it has the video connection cables when you buy it. Those are hard to find by themselves!

You win with the most expensive item in this thread, but also with the poorest maths too
