When working on a PCB, pads will normally de-laminate from the application of excessive heat. Inexperienced repairers often apply excessive heat or leave the iron on the pad for too long because they are having difficulty removing the part. I have seen many "re-cap" attempts that resulted in lifted pads. It is very easy to cause this type of damage. It is possible to repair de-laminated pads and tracks, I have done this after receiving boards with lifted and missing pads (due to bad repair attempts). It is quite a bit more work though. The epoxy between copper pad and FR4 laminate can sometimes only tolerate a limited amount of heating cycles and can also become weaker from excessive heating/re-work cycles. |

I'm presuming not, it was probably a noise/impedance/resistance issue or something. That was the old version anyway the new one is pretty much routed by Commodore so all of those things should be okay, if someone wants to volunteer to build one I might be tempted to spend yet more money on PCB's but I'll probably find another PCB place as the last batch had scratches and other visual imperfections.

Hi Guys,
Just thought I would give a quick update and let you all know I have had some PCB's manufactured from Mick's KiCad Design and am going to try getting all new parts where possible and try and see if it will function as intended. |

The only problem with it is something I noticed only recently in that the DAC has a copper keepout area for ground.

Visually its the same as my rev 1.5 board that my mate gave me to replace the 1 that they broke so hopefully it will work fine when i transfer the ic's over as im going to fit all new caps and resistors etc.

Don't suppose anyone knows anywhere selling the 23pin d-sub connectors and A600 power connectors? That aren't charging rediculous prices for them |

I'd test with composite output first and also look around at a few photos, some of the parts installed on rev2 retail boards don't match what was listed in the schematics. Ones I have noticed are capacitors and resistors near Agnus (and also E199 sometimes has a resistor).
There's very little difference between 2B and 2D boards, best I can tell is U49 was added and SOIC footprints made longer which resulted in some routing differences. Last edited by Mick; 30 November 2020 at 13:28. |

https://www.soigeneris.com/ and https://www.retronicdesign.com/ have teamed up to produce DB23F connectors, only cable type as far as I know not PCB mount and they wont be cheap but it's good to have another supplier.

Hi guys.
Very interesting thread. Any of you already succeeded in building a working A600 from a brands new PCB ? @Rodeo, you were about to manufcature your PCB in July last year, any progress? @rvctech, did you challenge your improved design with a prototype ? I'm very curious about this project as I have here 12+ A600 and would love to have a couple of brand new ones coming from 1:1 (or slightly improved) PCB replicas... |
