CGX4 is a commercial product (i.e. not legally available for free) that is no longer supported. CGX4 does not support WinUAE or Mediator - i.e. a large part of your potential RTG users will be unable to use your product. The SDK is not available easily (if at all), and the idea that anybody is going to write new CGX4 drivers is laughable.

Apparently, you're putting a lot of effort into this new graphics.library - so you're of course entitled to do whatever you want - but please stop throwing around empty phrases like "Unity" or "everybody must be friends".

You're just doing what everybody else did in the last 15 years: You declare what's right or wrong - and expect everybody else to follow your leadership or be damned. "Unity" or "making friends" doesn't work like that.

I understand what your mean... But Unity is the only way for success... So...

>or "everybody must be friends" & "making friends" doesn't work like that...

Ok, I change my word "friends" by "cooperation"...

No, you don't.

What you do is not called cooperation, it's called dictatorship: "Everybody do what I say! P96 must die!"

Again: it's your project, so feel free to do what you want. Just stop using all those nice buzzwords.

@Cosmos
What I believe @Korodny wants to say is that you have decided to go the CGX route without really making it an open desition, where everyone could put their own opinion in favor and against CGX. You just decided to take the CGX route by yourself, and called that unity, when really it is not helping at all.
Then comes the technical aspects involved in your desition, which involve, using an rtg system that is not as widely or commonly used as P96, wether we like or not. Every mediator and UAE user around the globe uses P96. So while CGX may be great for some things, it surely isnt the most widespread solution. And then of course, it depends on what everyone prefers.

For example, I personally prefer P96 over CGX because P96 supports my hardware whilst CGX does not. CGX is slightly faster than P96 for some operations, but it is a little more unstable. So in the end I choose to have a working harware, and a more stable and widespread rtg system. As a bonus, I might add that you can freely download the latest P96, while the latest CGX costs some $$.

I would really like unity regarding this subject but I am pretty sure you wont achieve it this way.
The best solution has already been mentioned somewhere: A new open source RTG system that supports both P96 and CGX drivers. If you do that, I bet you will accomplish your unity goal, without a doubt.

@korodny: calm down, why are you so upset?

@cosmos: very well, but how do you want to proceed? do you want to write every hardware driver yoursrelf?

have you considered aros gfx (dunno what it is called) as a base for your unified solution:
http://www.amiga.org/forums/showthre...287#post551287

it would be probably the cleanest approach, but if technically possible, i cant say.

LoadModule doesn't support the RTF_COLDSTART flag of the graphics.library.

Instead of LoadModule I prefer to use LoadResident from RemApollo.lha (and it works):

LoadResident >NIL: Libs:graphics.library

http://aminet.net/util/boot/RemAPollo.lha

The advantage of LoadResident is that it loads the modules in exactly the same way as Kickstart does. Thus, you will find them with Scout in the list of "Residents".

PS. Cosmos, could you please remove the "l" from my name in your docs. Thanks

When i boot My Amiga for the first time ... LoadResident is loaded successfully .. but in workbench : "version graphics.library" show me always 40.24 and under Sysinfo too.

If i reboot .. LoadResident give me an error ..

So it's not the ultimate solution

At the top of your startup-sequence add a line:

Wait 2 ; this works for me under WinUAE

Cosmos already knows about the wrong revision number (24) of the graphics.library structure. It must be set to 25 somewhere in the Init() function but I'm too lazy to analyze his init code.

a new graphics library is a great idea, but i know the best speedup of a 68k system can do by enhance the layer library for P96 and AGA.because on P96or without CGX or P96 layer is really slow.CGX have lots faster layer called superlayers.it can switch on and off.with this switch on my classic can with CGX install on a AGA screen 640*256 16 color screen very fast opaque window move and resize.without this, all is very slow.there are some layer patches around.but i see no patch that speedup layer.only CGX superlayers give lot speedup also on AGA.I have some time ago compile AROS layerlibrary, but when i start this before WB is open then system seem wait for something and freeze.but when i start this after boot, i can open a screen and all work and AROS layer library is too faster and can maybe support window move out of screen

yes !!! Finally got it working with both UAE and Real A1200/030

Just use Loadmodule from this archive http://aminet.net/util/boot/LoadModule11.lha and not from http://aminet.net/util/boot/LoadModule.lha

there is a tool called CGXAGA which came with cgx 3.x ?! found a thread in polish where someone talked about a newer version with source, but i cant find this version: http://www.ppa.pl/forum_ppa/read.php?f=4&t=8515
Quote:
Short: Devs:Monitors/CGXAGA replacement with source
Author: koljanych(at)mail.com (Nicolaus Mezencef)
Uploader: koljanych(at)mail.com (Nicolaus Mezencef)
Type: gfx/board
Requires: CGX 3/4
Version: 1.0

This monitor driver substitutes standard videomode by CGX analogues.
It allows to start some CGX program and use cgx features: PLANES2FAST,
SUPERLAYERS (fastest layers replacement), SUPERGELS, etc.
Friendly to videoboard. Must be start before fblit.

Requires:
ECS/AGA Amiga
CPU 020 and better
properly installed CGX
i found the link above here.

maybe someone can provide this version so you can investigate this one.
