Sorry but if the name on the box takes precedence over the name of the in-game then ... you get the idea

How can one game have 5 different names? Okay, I'll add another one to the ever growing list then

Interesting find: That Scrabble game with many names in its French incarnation was released in 1989 and not 1988 The box and manual both say 1989, so I checked the IPF files and the data on the disk is also from 1989.

Not sure if there's a version in TOSEC that needs to be corrected (couldn't find it), but the SPS release has the wrong year.

Thanks, it's corrected on my side

I took some time for you :

- Piracy on the High Seas (I.C.E.)(FR)
- Super Hang-On (The Hit Squad)[budget]
- Treasure Island Dizzy (Codemasters) [It is a pity to see that the manual currently present in HOL has been scanned only halfway...it is just 2 pages long ...]

It is a real shame indeed. There are some manuals/instructions that have been only half or quarter scanned (one out of four languages). Most of the time we at least label it correctly so that it is clear that the manual is incomplete. But if the manual 'spreads' most of the time that information is lost. Ah well, such is the internet

Edit: Holy mackerel, the German translation is... bad Maybe that's why they didn't scan it? Who knows

Holy mackerel?! I don't know this expression... it is a patron saint or just to eat . For the moment :
- Ooops Up (Demonware)(FR)

Note: The manual is a mix between French and German. I have integrated 2 photos of the whole thing so that you can get an idea of the initial assembly. Good luck

Note 2 : The French version was put on sale at the FNAC on 15/11/1990

Don't know where I heard it first, but here's a little explanation for your reading pleasure: https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/holy_mackerel

That is really helpful Usually like puzzles, but those huge poster-manuals can be a pain in the behind to assemble correctly.

I've changed the release year on HOL accordingly.

Okay, the photos aren't that helpful

I guess this is supposed to be the German manual, but the index and two pages of the comic are in French. I tried to translate the index and came up with:

Comic: Pages 2-6
Loading Instructions: Pages 7-10
Weapons: Pages 11-14
Bonus Points: Page 15
Enemies: Page 16

I'll try to figure out where the empty and the 'have fun' one goes...

Edit: I don't know how you got that version of the game, but that manual is definitely meant to be cut up and stiched together as a 'book'. After editing the pages I noticed the pattern how the pages are arranged on the two sides. Might have been a test print for the manual. I would wager a guess that you got a pre-release version there

Edit 2: Those black lines at the bottom of the pages are the cutlines if I'm not mistaken.

Edit 3: I had to ask a professional printer about it and this is his answer (translated by DeepL):
Quote:
yes, this is a simple 16-page print, which is then folded and then finished on a saddle stitcher, i.e. bound with 2 staples.
16s therefore, because there are a total of 16 pages.
You can also see the cutting and folding marks (the lines), which people can then use as a guide when folding and later final cutting.
So you got a real rarity there Crashdisk

A little history doesn't hurt from time to time

It is also possible that all French buyers had the right to the same "prototype"
I also thought it was weird that it was a finished version of the manual. There should have been a note explaining how to read the manual
In any case, thank you for these technical explanations.

For tonight, I have this already ready :
- Alien Breed 3D (Team 17)(CD32)
- CarVup (Core)[1992 Edition]
- Gold of the Aztecs, The (U.S. Gold)(FR)
- Ringside (Energize)[budget]
- Three Stooges, The (Mirror Image)[budget]
- Three Stooges, The (Mirror Image)(FR)[budget]
- Xenon 2 - Megablast (Image Works)(FR)

I have more scans in the pipeline but they are not ready yet.

Note: About Three Stooges, the english and french disks are identical

That is of course also a possibility. What is weird is that we can safely assume that the manual was German originally and since 'Jörg Ritter' who made the comic doesn't sound like a French name (the metal ö quite gives it away ) the comic has been translated, but not the rest.

We would need a bigger sample size to determine if Demonware just did a really poor job for the French release or if you do have something special

Now I don't know if you made a joke or if you have more copies of the game. If it's the latter please let me know so I can change the description of the manual on HOL

As I told you, I take the opportunity to make an inventory because I have 8 bookcases and 9 boxes of 60L filled with Amiga boxes

So, we will end the day with :
- 20 000 Lieues Sous les Mers (Coktel)(FR)

- Nucleus & Bug Bash (Microtec)[compilation]
- Operation Stealth (Delphine)(FR)
- Penthouse Hot Numbers (Magic Bytes)(FR)
- Push-Over (Commodore)[A600 bundle]
- Wall, The (Rainbow Arts)

Note: For Push-Over, the Disk Scan n°2 is broken (http://hol.abime.net/1180/diskscan)

Bonus track that interests or not HOL. I don't know :

Okay, but do you have more than one copy of Ooops Up with that manual?

Edit: I finally got it... you don't know if you have more than one box Well, in the meantime until you know let's just assume you don't and move on

It is a catalog sold in EDOS licensed stores, it was sold 4 French francs of 1992 or the equivalent of 0.96€ of today. From memory, I was given it after buying an EDOS game.

I see. I've added it to the Advanced Ski Simulator entry with an added note about the price
