Thanks Guys.

There are about 6 fonts I've seen that fit perfectly in the menu, I shall probably make them user-selectable.

Hi KG

Looking good.. How does one set tooltypes for each game? is it in the game icon, or can they be set in the launcher?

For the scanning of games, have you thought about CRC checking the slaves or icons?

Yes, this would be interesting to know.

At this exact moment in time you are not able to edit the tooltypes to launch the game from 'inside' the menu.

It reads in the information from the .info file that you'd normally click on to load the game. This way it retains your settings if you are booting the game from workbench or from the menu.

So if you want to change the tooltypes you will have to do it in workbench (for now). It's not too difficult to allow the user to change them within the menu it's just not high on my priority list right now.

There is a 'scripts' dir as well which will allow you to override the icons tooltypes by dropping in a script 'gamename.run'.

I have thought about CRC checking...

For now I won't include it, it'll just look for files with the same names as the ones in the database. I may add it later but for now it's just names I'm afraid!

All questions/suggestions are welcome.

How about a filtering search function? If I type "a" it shows me all the games that start with a and if I add a "b" I just see Abandoned Places and Abracadabra and when I enter "r" I'm down to the one game I'm looking for. Does that make sense? Another useful feature would be a way to mark certain games as favourites and then filter on that. MAME OS X has such a feature and it makes dealing with hundreds or thousands of games so much easier.

It'll have a favourites button so you add a game to your favourites.

As for filtering... I'll have to see about that. Again it's not on my list of priorities

Looking better and better.

I agree, eventually some kind of filter or search tool would be good. But as you said, that can be a later priority.

I've been looking at the filter/search tool...

What I will implement is...

If you press 'G' it'll move to the first game beginning with G.

If you press 'G' followed by 'h' in quick succession it'll move to the first game with 'Gh' in the name.

If a game with 'Gh' doesn't exist it'll stay on the first game beginning with 'G'.

(This will work with typing up to 40 letters if you wanted to type the full name!)

Will that suit ya?

That is *exactly* what I was hoping for. Well done you. Frankly though, whatever you do will be head and shoulders above what we've got so you won't hear me complaining.

Cool, good to know.

The menu is actually done and working (no filter support yet) but I've learnt a lot more about AmigaE in the last few days so a lot of it is getting rewritten MUCH cleaner.

This is fun!

Hiya KG

I'm certainly interested in your launcher. The Lazybench from the ClassicWB I'm using now is okay, but lack of joystick navigation, filter/search and long startup time with all my games, added to the very uninviting gui makes your menu look very inviting.

I really hope you will be releasing it to the public soon, or at least include me in the WIP group, as you have been teasing us for over 7 months now
I would also like to contribute if there is anything I can assist with regarding the development/skinning/testing. I'm an educated programmer and have had my Amigas for 16 years now, but sadly I've never developed any programs from scratch on the Amiga, just hacking everybody elses work I have however been programming stuff in Amstrad Basic, Turbo Pascal, Java, C++ and a little Assembler, and even developed a game launcher for DOS back in the day, running on several computer cafés.
