It comes to my mind that the first Diablo-Game from 1997 reminded me on "The Faerytale Adventure" (1987).
I'm sorry, I don't have any screenshots of "Diablo I".
In my humble opinion "The Faerytale Adventure" is far better than Diablo.

I think, that in former times when the capability of the computer wasn't that developed as nowadays, the programmers concentrated more on the gameplay and the story.
Today a lot of time goes lost to create the graphics and the UI.

Cheers,
Rick

I start to believe that many ST games 'borrowed' famous characters

There is an amiga version of D-Day.

Although developer is 'unknown' for both games, since Loriciel was involved for both games, it is highly probable that the same artist worked on two interfaces and decided to re-use some previous work.

Of course he probably worked also on Advanced Destroyer Simulator. Notice the needle gauges in the left and compare them to Sherman M-4. Same goes with the compass.

There is an arcade game called Steel Force that TOTALLY rips off alien breed, even the tiles!
