Extremely amusing, although, just make sure you don't use the pages for cleaning up, after you finished your business!

It's very interesting to read through the early Commodore User issues. Quite some hype about the Amiga, then a bit of dissapointment as the first Amigas to reach the UK are NTSC and won't work with standard TVs and monitors. First ad for an Amiga game shows up in issue 10/1986, but they are pretty rare from then on (to be fair so are ads for the ST at that point).

ZERO were terrible for high percentage reviews - not many low ones. Humour a bit too wacky and out there too (used the like the highest joystick pics though!)
I used to love early CU and CU Amiga but got too techy for me (also Amiga Format - but that was always a bit more techy) Amiga Action, never liked that league system they used to do and like ZERO I found their percentages on the high side. Always was an avid reader of Zzap and did the Amiga Kick Off readers challenge in 1990 against Phil "Footy" King. I personally think it was an error to drop the Amiga and focus on the C64 imho. Used to like early C&VG before it became too console focused. Games X was a great short lived weekly mag too. As a sole Amiga publication, Amiga Power was probably the best |

I liked & voted for Amiga Shopper, it was probably the most informative & it was cheaper; however it had no games coverage & for several years no cover disk which probably made it unique for an Amiga mag as well!
It was always a dilemma in the newsagents between Shopper, CU or one of the others. CU Amiga was my joint favourite. I even brought a 1 year subscription which ended with the October 1998 issue which was the final ever issue … sad day. Still things are pretty good these days on the Amiga Mag front. |

The funny thing about the AA Super League is how many games they recommended - even in the first one (March 1991, the issue with their pasty skinny staff alongside people dressed as NFL players on the cover) they recommended that we buy over 250 games - did they not know there was a recession going on? But generally, if Action and Power disagreed I more often agreed with Power. |

In Commodore User 6/1987 Atari placed an ad for the ST. No ads for the Amiga from Commodore, but an ad from Atari for the ST...
Edit: Peartree Computers as a 'Commodore Approved Dealer' put ads in Commodore User for the Amiga though. Edit 2: A month later the first Amiga 500 ad by Commodore shows up. Last edited by TCD; 10 July 2023 at 10:53. |

It's hard to vote because the magazines could vary in quality throughout their lifespan, and it also depended of course on what sort of coverage you wanted. Some examples: ZZAP! was best for games in the '80s but began a dramatic decline in quality in the '90s. Amiga Shopper was best for serious software but if you wanted game reviews you were reading the wrong magazine :-/

In CU Amiga 2/1991 are tests for Turrican 2, Speedball 2, SWIV, and Lemmings. All getting 90%+ scores. Fine month for Amiga gaming I'd say

It was Monty Python for me At least for spoken English. I learnt a lot of English words while playing Buck Rogers: Countdown to Doomsday and Champions Of Krynn.

I still have all my issues of CUAmiga that I bought with the cash in hand paycheck from my first job. I`ve got all a couple of complete years 1992 & 93 I think and 94, 95, 96 have a few missing! I don`t know why but I just love the fact that I`ve had them for 30ish years!

I have begun cataloging my magazines and I was suprised to find that I have a complete run of CU from January 1985 until it ceased production (plus 2 issues from 1984).
