I can't speak to AmigaOS 3.2 but 3.1.4 works perfectly well on A3000 with KS1.4 at least. |

What I personally like the best about 3.2 is that it can still look and feel similar to 3.1. I do have most new features turned on, but to me it still feels very much like the retro 3.1 that I have so fond memories of. Yet subtly visible it gives me so many improvements. Some of which I 've dreamt of since 1990. Many of the features are inspired if not taken from Commodores own plans back in 1993. To me this validates that we have respected the heritage.

Even ReAction is simply an implementation of Commodores plans. It is basically a collection of new classes. That makes it a much more direct continuation of 3.1 than a whole new ecosystem like MUI. And since the 3.9 incarnation of ReAction we have fixed many many bugs, made numerous improvements, and added a lot of new features, some taken from OS4 and some developed from scratch.
As a proof that these new gadgets are that simple I can tell you that we have used one of those gadgets inside an otherwise GadTools program. It is simply a gadget like any other. It is not more complex, and it is just as fast. |

So it seems to be possible to use ReAction gadget just like any other BOOPSI gadget. How do you position such gadget on the screen? Is the layout class required for this purpose? |

>Will updated ReAction classes be released with 3.2?
Yes. >If so, what ReAction gadgets/classes will be available? There are several dozen, basically everything from OS3.9 plus several extra classes. >Will they be fully compatible with AmigaOs4 ReAction? Each has some features specific to that platform, however the tag allocations for those do not overlap so there should not be any issues. >How do you position such gadget on the screen? The same way as you would for a non-BOOPSI gadget. Unlike eg. MUI, ReAction gadgets are real gadgets and can be handled as such. >Is the layout class required for this purpose? No. |

Really wonderful to hear that the development team has respected the heritage of the OS and Commodore's original vision for its evolution.
I'm very excited for this release! |

Thanks for clarification. Last I checked ReAction gadgets do not handle positioning themselves, so I assume that tags like GA_Left. GA_Top, GA_Width etc. applied via SetGadgetAttrs to ReAction gadget will be forwarded to its super class (for example gadgetclass) which will handle its positioning in a window. Can we safely assume that all tags that are unknown for certain ReAction gadget are forwarded to its superclass? |

Seems like it is time for me to tinker with my Amigas a bit more again. Thank you devs for the work you put into a system that has been declared dead so many times.

Well the OS and the other things we have handpicked are really good and so it would be a shame if it just got lost to time

As for GoShell, "TAB" completion requires an external help (like WShell) But without TAB completion, it's already possible to : "cd ThisFol#?" to access a folder named : ThisFolderHasATooLongName From CONman documentation: Code:
[...] Option Character Default Value ---------------- ------------- A <==> Activate Activated B <==> BackDrop Not a backdrop C <==> Close gadget No close gadget D <==> Depth gadgets Depth gadgets M <==> Move (drag) gadget Drag gadget N <==> NoBorder Border (sorry, "B" was used) R <==> Refresh (SMART/SIMPLE) Smart refresh (simple under 2.0) S <==> Sizing gadget Sizing gadget Z <==> Zero-Zero Not a GZZ [...] Examples: CON:10/10/300/100/Behind/nb/ a borderless backdrop window. CON:10/10/300/100/Fixed/acm a nonactivated window, with a close gadget, that won't budge. [...] You can select the colors for the window's titlebar area by appending a '/' to the attribute list and specifying the "detail pen" and "block pen" color values; the color numbers are listed below. Pen Number Color ---------- ----- 0 Blue 1 White 2 Black 3 Red For example, "CON://640/100/Colors!/ac/23" would specify a window with black letters (the detail pen) on a red titlebar (the block pen). [...] You can specify several command line arguments with the ConMan command: Code Action ------ ------ -bNNNN select buffer size NNNN bytes -c install as CON: (the default) -lNNN minimum length to save -o select overstrike mode -r install as RAW: -s select "sticky" mode -t maintain "true history" -w select "wrap-around" history [...] |

Tab completion in the shell is naturally one of the new features of the 3.2 shell. Thomas wrote about this already a year ago. Contrary to tab completion in consoles doing it in the shell like 3.2 does has the benefit that not all programs are subject to having the tab key taken over

- Translations are 95% finished.
- There was an Easter GlowIcons invitation: https://www.a1k.org/forum/index.php?threads/78823/ - Only minor work continues. Mostly testing related. |
