Let us know when you get a chance to test that Rev 3. Still waiting on my order, unfortunately.

I finally received the boards from DirtyPCBs! Shipping took 45 days from Hong Kong... I was starting to lose hope. Started soldering one up. The CPLDs are indeed a bit tricky but I managed after a bit of practice. Those CPLD pins are indeed extra sensitive, they bend if you look them wrong, gotta be very careful.

Nice very nice! Once my rev2 is up and running might have to force myself into getting a kipper fast ram board . Nice work / news! Then going for a rev3 or 4 next! Loving the 1200 edge connector I wonder what accelerator comes next, after the 500.

What exactly is this thing? I see that it appears to convert the A1200 connector to PCI, but what benefit is there if you still need an A1200 connector to create the converter board? Im obviously out of the loop :/ |

I think the idea is that once you have this adaptor, you can use a board from anyone developing an accelerator that uses the PCI edge connector form factor. It's a way of standardising the port, and making the custom connector a one time purchase that will work with all future accelerators.

k, Let me try to explain. I can provide these adapters to people... this means that developers can make their new memory expansions, accelerators, video cards etc plug into this adapter without the need of buying these hard to find connectors or chopping connectors to try to make their own. Developers now can make prototype boards etc without the hassle of wasting a connector if they mess up and it will make testing much simpler. All signals are transferred from the A1200 motherboard so it has full capability. I wanted to try to open the A1200 for all developers to have a chance to make their own creations and i believe/hope this fulfills that premise. see www.kipper2k.com/a1200.html for more info |

Yup. Plus hopefully you could make the same adapter for the CD32

Is it just an edge connector replacement that uses the easier-to-find PCI form factor or is it an actual PCI slot? I'm guessing it's the former.

Hi,
Quick suggestion for the A1200 to PCI adaptor, can you add a TE Connectivity/AMP 171826-4 power connector? Using the standard PC pinout, you could then source +5V and +12V power for the expansion direct from an ATX PSU. I include +12V in case you want a switch-mode converter that needs higher currents than the small floppy drive cable can supply. From +5V you can take 3A/15W, from +12V it's also 3A or 36W. I'd better get on with another project shortly. |

Would this mean the vampire 1200 is in the form of pci? It makes sense, when thinking about it. A same adapter could be made for a3/4k as suggested earlier. It could be placed in a pci slot of a pc with many possibilities opening. Maybe it could act as standalone also and it makes sense economically.
Ok.. back to topic.. Last edited by roomeo; 17 May 2017 at 00:04. |

Hmm....a series of Zorro I/II/III to PCI adapters would give similar standardization to the A500/A1000/A2000/A3000/A4000 Though I would also like to see an A3K/A4K CPU slot to PCI adapter so the community can start making accels for those. Especially now that I know where to get 25/33/40 MHz 040's cheap cheap cheap. Given the robbery that is A3640 pricing, there might be a market here. Especially if it had SATA and an SO-DIMM slot capable of ridiculous RAM sizes (for an Amiga), like 512MB, 1GB, and 2GB. All of which you can get damn near for free from PC laptop people that have upgraded. In fact I have a drawer full of those three sizes in DDR2.
