I deflected to playstation because psygnosis did and wipe-out blew me away, as did the 3d beat em ups and tomb raider
Shame psygnosis are no more, I'd have followed them to any system.... RIP Psygnosis |

For me it was also Doom, i think.
But anyway after all these years i sold PC and bought again Amiga. Because frankly i got so many nice memories when played games on Amiga, it cant be beaten even if i got PC with even three graphic cards, its not the same. |

It was late 1996, and as conscientious objector I was working as clerk at an association office; there was this 486 Compaq that nobody of the office direction knew how to work with them there, (long story) and so it was at the mercy of me and the other young clerks.
After a bit of trial and error tampering - it was a miracle I did not break it - I was able to run some games that were there in a box at the office: Ultima Underworld, Shadowcaster, Hired Guns, Aladdin 2 and Doom. I played actually a lot with Ultima Underworld and Doom, and the former was surely responsible to push me to buy a pc, afterwards. But the games that I was looking at for months or even years on magazines prior to buy the pc were Ultima 7, Ambermoon, Albion, Eye of the Beholder 3, and, later, Daggerfall. |

No game. Programs like Word or Excel made me buy a PC.

I remember back in early 90's while on a military base there was a multi storey building tucked away in one corner of the base which was shared by Army/Navy officers... During their assigned "leisure time" they used to play doom! I used to chuckle to myself because I had to respect their authority but there they were acting like little kiddies while playing doom! |

It was really the Wing Commander series for me that finally pushed me over. Castle Wolfenstein and that Triad game (can't remember the name) were ones that solidified the deal.
Hopefully everyone already knows but there was a Kickstarter that got funded for a new Wing Commander game from Chris Roberts (the original creator) called Squadron 42 and/or Star Citizen. It's a bit late to donate but keep an eye out for that to come in the future. |

as a big Formula One fan in the 80's & 90's I caved and bought a 486 just to play Grand Prix 2 and later 3 by Microprose. I remember drooling for a blizzard 030@50 which cost a zillion dollars and hard to find in my city at this time too.

Our Amiga and PC co-existed for quite a while. Then, well, the PC games were looking better and better all the time, and the Amiga went in storage.
It wasn't any particular PC game; the above and the lack of much of an Amiga scene or new development, plus the only store we knew about moving to PC. |

I got my first PC in 1997, and I remember the main games I was playing (that weren't available on the Amiga) were Quake, Dark Forces, Sam + Max, Ultimate Doom, and Sega Rally.

Not a game, but a 3D software.
I finally dropped my A2000/030@25+FPU after having found out the same 3D scene in Lightwave rendered *60 times* faster on a Cyrix166+ :'( I was a fine-art student back then and, finally, I'm more proud of what I did on the Amiga than on the PC. Last edited by Astrofra; 25 February 2013 at 11:13. |
