Would be nice if multiple elevations somehow make their way into Grind eventually. |

The Amiga platform didn't benefit from PC Doom engine reverse engineering efforts. Amiga's 1995 year was on Escom's administration stacked with ex-Commodore Germany personnel. |

Dread limits its color render to 4 bitplanes i.e. 16 colors. The artwork's color selection is similar to Bitmap Brother's 16-color artwork for the Atari ST. Grind or Dread is not PC's 256 colors Doom.

I'm glad to see this is slowly but surely turning into a "what if" thread

I posted the link more of a intriguing and Amiga related historic piece of gaming history, more akin to if someone posted the Amiga HDD for Babylon 5, and not to start a what if thread if the next Avatar could/should be produced on an A4000! The developer himself actually said and wished if someone could use the source-code and make use of the engine for something else. He used an A2000 for his development environment. |

As much as I love Doom (and it's a lot), I just don't get the obsession over what happened/didn't happen decades ago.
We have Doom, we have Quake 1, 2, 3 and various derivatives. If you are on a PPC machine you have Doom 3 and Quake 4 etc. Can we all just get over it already? Grind is a much better example of what the Amiga of yesteryear, on limited resources can do. We have several native FPS that were, within a couple of years, technically more accomplished than Doom was on release, regardless of what you think about the final presentation or gameplay. |

I love that Grind looks distinctly different to Doom or Wolfenstein 3D or even Alien Breed 3D. I'm really looking forward to playing it because it is different to Doom etc. |

Is it Doom a better game than Dread? Yes. Because of many reasons I won't go into right now. But even if it wasn't, this is not "There can be only one", diversity is good Can we actually play Doom on OCS/ECS machines? The answer is NO* (*except with a Pistorm or Vampire) Could we play Doom on an Amiga 500 using Dread engine or any other superoptimized engine with the assets from this leak or (eventually) other optimized ones? YES Is there most of the Amiga community interested in that? I did't setup an survey, but I would bet at least 80% would be an absolute YES. End of the smoke and mirrors. |

To make Doom more playable with 68020/68030 would require cut down Doom wad. There is a remake of Atari Jaguar Doom wad which works just fine with ADoom and it runs much better than original Doom wad with 28mhz 68020 CPU. SNES Doom is even more cut down compared to Atari so I suppose remake of it's wad would run even better with ADoom.

And they replied with "it doesn't use wad it uses a custom level format".
If you're asking could someone convert it into a wad compatible with ADoom? We are waiting (over a year) for you to do it https://www.doomworld.com/forum/topi...doom-wad-file/ |
