I test a lot of packdisks to go faster. If there is a problem, I have to retest the demo / intro.
Sometimes a non-standard bootblock (utility boot for example) creates a glitch in one of the demos or intros after launching it, whereas if you run it from an adf (with a standard bootblock) you are fine.

Edit : some demos absolutely require the "add 21k" ( and only 512k chip ) command to work properly (example: metaldemo by brainstorm).

I think this can be the case with HUMANOIDS-MadPlayfield when runs on A500 1.2/1.3 OCS 512 config. because it runs fine from its packdisk (Compact Disk 63) with the same config.!

Exact. But " my " tested version on " Humanoid Compact Disk 0X " must have add21k command before to run properly ( and you must break startup sequence with CTRL+D before ). Type #5 .

Otherwise Crash or freeze with Quickstart A500 only 512K. Edit : and only one drive.
I will compare the checksums of the two files.
Maybe two different versions.

Edit 2 : I found the source of the problem (the 2 checksums and the two sizes are identical). This demo must need all the available Chip memory. The mouse pointer on this packdisk is not "standard" and is huge (more Chip used compared to a regular pointer?). So I deleted "devs / system-configuration" and everything is back to normal without add21k ( but you must always breaking startup-sequence ).

IMHO larger chip ram rarely causes problems. Lack of slow ram or too many floppy drives is most common problem (because too many old demos absolute address too low chip ram)

Something is wrong. About 3/4th of bobs are missing.. and one is half-missing

A500 confirmed. Copper list does not have proper end WAIT. Random results depending on old RAM contents.

Does not glitch on real A500 but it still might have single refresh slot conflict without visible side-effect. This needs closer checking..

Technical details:

Demo writes to VHPOSW, changing horizontal counter value exactly by one, this causes copper waits to end 1 cycle earlier (or later) which basically means same behavior as copper using odd cycles to update custom registers. (2 lores pixel resolution, like the demo loader screen says)

Because this also changes bitplanes, it uses BPLCON1 to compensate for bitplane corruption, by scrolling exact same amount to opposite direction of corruption caused by VHPOSW writes.

There is another VHPOSW at the end of each scan line that compensates previous VHPOSW adjustment, syncing Agnus and Denise counters again and preventing hsync problems.

Coding this demo must have taken lots of attempts until timing was exactly right... Even single cycle error would break hsync timing.

This one glitches again.

Same line draw glitches on real ECS A500. Also tested on real A1000. Same.

Scroller offset is correct. Glitches are different. 4.4 has too much glitch, 4.9 does not have enough. Real A500 has just correct amount of glitch

Probably also depend on memory contents. This also needs later checks..

ECS Denise A500 shows blank screen (with fading colors). I expect OCS Denise + ECS Agnus have correct display + 60Hz. (Back in the day of A500, ECS Agnus only was quite common A500 setup, ECS Denise was very rare)

Glitches (shifted vectors but real A500 also have some free running bitplane like garbage "behind it") are correct. Also need later checks. More correct but not perfect

Glitches are correct. How glitch exactly happens is not fully known.

Another one that writes garbage to BEAMCON0. Impossible to work on real ECS A500. Perhaps WinUAE should show "No signal" or "No sync" or "Invalid video signal" when it is 100% sure it is totally impossible to work

Very glitchy on ECS A500.

If you see lots of "bpl conflict".. log message (note that only first 100 or are logged to prevent log flood), it means bitplane DMA conflicts with strobe/refresh slots and this behavior is not fully known. It is guaranteed to make glitches (it can't be used for anything useful and it can even corrupt memory in worst case) so it isn't important if glitch is not "correct".

"Glitches" "fixed" (=glitches appear when they should appear, but they are not exactly right).

Above NTSC issue is also fixed.

Additional Info: If you start this demo there will be a glitch to the left of the screen after a while ( pic 1 ) but if you quit and start it a second time all is ok. I don't really understand why.

With beta 30, there is only a black screen with this demo.
With the b29 (and today's version) there is an additional problem (in addition to the problem reported by Amillo, post # 817) with this demo at the bottom of the screen on the phenomena logo at the end of one moment. There is a very quick return from the Cli window. You have to watch the logo carefully because it's really fast. This happens at least twice.

I succeeded in my screenshot (pic 1). This is a brief "return" to the cli during the demo. Quickstart A500 OCS/1.2 or 1.3. Beta 29.

The second image ( pic 2 ) is the glitch reported by Amilo.

Juts tested to run fine with 68010! (with 68000 have problem)
