Off the top of my head I would say -
* UFO: Enemy Unknown / X-COM: Enemy Unknown I would also agree with Anubis, that Open-Xcom is utterly brilliant. Once I had completed UFO: Enemy Unknown via my Amiga emulator (to tick that off my bucket list), I played both the PC version and then Open-Xcom. * Dune 1 & 2 I wish that there was a multi unit select on either the Amiga or PC version of Dune 2, would really help streamline the gameplay. * Indianna Jones and the Fate of Atlantis. * EOTB 1 and 2, however I'm playing the AGA version of EOTB 2 with the auto-map feature. Again this is a bucket list item for me (as I bought the original boxed version of EOTB 2, And never finished it BITD, as it was too hard). Last edited by Geordie-Jedi; 31 March 2024 at 19:31. I think Dune 2000 on the PC might have multi-unit selection?

It does, since its essentially Red Alert rebuilt into Dune 2.
The game is still a bit dull though. |

The previous answer was more correct. Only difference is missing music in Amiga version. The midi music was not converted into mods and is not there.

Honestly the PC version doesn't look better despite having more colour. More isn't necessary better (also known as the Chaos Engine paradox).
You make me wants to play the Amiga version now ! |

Well in that case, don't even bother to play any OCS games that have a VGA counterpart, especially since playing a PC game now means playing it with the best possible configuration ever with savestates.
Yep. That would be nice. Maybe Jotd could have a look at it some day who knows ? I'm always amazed by what is done now with WHDLoad experts. The TFX/Tornado enhancement, the AB3D2 fix, the backward shooting in Alien Breed 2, I would'nt thought that this would have been possible just with this tools. |

Doesn't diminish how it does make a big difference today. I am all for nostalgia, but nostalgia needs to be enjoyed with eyes wide open.

That you can hardly identify the candles as such in the Amiga version has nothing to do with 'crisp, pixel perfect screen shots'. It's simply the lack of color (or poor choice).

Using General Midi device to play MT-32 midi, and recording gameplay in 10pfs is going to make any PC version look inferior to Amiga.

btw i'm playing it on Dosbox and i can say that even with the appropriate mt32 emulation, the gameplay is just not on par with the Amiga version; also the graphics is worse, and the scrolling too personal opinion ofc |

Rise Of the Dragon while perfectly playable on the Amiga (provided one plays it from HDD) is prettier on the PC. Also, Ween ~ the Prophecy deserves a mention too. I know you said you were familiar with ScummVM-able games, but this one isn't the most obvious choice among multi-platform adventure games.
Also, it's not a widespread opinion but I kinda like better the overall presentation of the Amiga version of Space Quest IV, despite the fact that an unexpanded A500 can't quite cope with it. And yup indeed, Lollipop / Lollypop, quite intriguing a platformer... |

or... I mean, I can understand the nostalgia factor, like I said earlier I still play the likes of Monkey I or BASS on Amiga, but I (subjectively of course) think they were pretty good conversions. Amiga's SQIV on the other hand is kinda aiming for the C64 colour palette vibes But, sure, if it works for you I can relate...sometimes the first impression really is the strongest. |

Art is in the eye of the beholder... Or some shit like that... TBH., if you are going to play one of those adventure games, always opt first for FM Town version... then PC and lastly for Amiga, unless we are talking about Sierra games. In that case, no amount of color helps... (but Amiga sounds better unless you are emulating Roland MT-32) Last edited by Anubis; 25 April 2024 at 14:42. |
