I am happy about anybody creating something for the Amiga.
Be it pure ASM, AMOS, Blitz, Backbone, Red Pill, whatever. If it's something you can play, and enough people have the right config to do so, why give a fuck about how it was made? If you are doing some kind of compo though, you need defined specs. OCS/ECS 521k+512k AGA (with basic 1200 specs) and "WILD" (any classic Amiga config is allowed, even Vampire) I don't want to compete with my OCS/ASM-thing against somebody creating a game for 68060 and RTG. |

Backbone/Redpill shouldn't be banned but have its own category.

Totally agree!
I'm currently getting to grips with Blitz and the programming aspect is fine but the Amiga-isms are hard to get one's head round. Palettes and bit planes are a bit of a leap for someone used to DirectX and Java. |

I started with Blitz a year ago. Here's a "demo" I did in Blitz few months ago, checking plausibility for a game that might or might not happen in future... [ Show youtube player ] |

MSXDev 2018 have two categories this year: http://www.msxdev.org/msxdev18-rules/
Maybe something like that could be done for the Amiga ? I'm all for a competition of games that run only on a 68000 and 512k of memory. |

That everyone finds pleasure to program, that everyone finds pleasure to play. No matter the details. This is the main, long life to the amiga and all those who make it live.

You guys got me in the mood to share some things I kind a kept partially secret for not some obvious reason.
Here's Pong I made fairly quick for the retro meeting we had here last weekend. And it works on A500. [ Show youtube player ] So my bottom line is Try Blitz Basic! |

MSX Dev works with prizes, with the community donating money for prizes. Anyone thinks this would be feasible within the Amiga comunity ? |

All of this talk about hardware variants has me thinking there should be a standard scoring rubric where part of the final score is judged by how effectively the hardware was used. If higher specs were used effectively then it will not hinder the score.
A better use of the category system would be action games vs. strategy games and possibly other genres. There will be a second rubric for genre specific ratings. There should be a reusability quotient for using libraries or engines but this will be tempered by the hardware usage quotient. An example of good use of Graphics.library instead of reinventing the OS functions with hardware banging would be an example of the software utilization quotient. Using Backbone will be like pushing a car with a wet noodle as an example of poor software utilization. Does this sound more fair? |

That sounds a bit too complicated and subjective, I think...
I think three categories and people voting in each one are good enough... |

Maybe so. I was thinking of AmigaE and Modula2 for reusability because it would make future competition better due to better tools and libraries existing.

3 categories
1) OCS/ECS 68000 1mb 2) AGA 68020 2mb 3) Whatever the heck you want to use and I still think maybe 1) and 2) could be the same category. Thing is, would anyone like to organize such a thing? I wouldn't do it as I would prefer to develop something for it |

It also answers your other question; people / Amiga shops / companies are willing to support / sponsor such a thing |
