It's gonna look good. Not sexy. Don't get confused between Women (the ones you want to find sexy) and computers. It can lead to disastrous consequences. (Look at Fisken)

Hi, can you please tell me what exact versions you used of:

IDEFIX
Workbench
Kickstart ROM

and any other software you used in getting the cdrom working for this project.

Thanks!

@Smiley (sent you a pm )

The project here uses Kickstart 3.1 roms and Workbench 3.1 (os3.5 ate to much ram!)

the system also has 2mb of fast ram (well 250ns sram on'a pcmcia card!)

IDEfix97 software is downloaded from aminet (recently)

Is your A600 holding up well? Plays audio CDs OK?

My A600 is taking so long to complete Zetr0

The speculated spec is as follows:

-2MB CHIP
-2MB FAST
-Internal CDROM
-4Way IDE buffer
-1GB CF harddrive
-Internal Cocolino PS/2 Mod
-Clockport adapter
-PortJnr High speed serial port
-MAS player
-Hombrew PCB'less 3 ROM Kickstart switcher (1.3, 2.04, 3.1) (Using two external switches to switch between ROM chips, can be switched on the fly but must be rebooted)

All done nearly except for the MAS player and Cocolino (lack of money)

Started in August 2006 lol

@smiley

I have made a few modifications to the A600.

I have added a cooling block to the 68k cpu tidied up inside the case.

Looking at modding a DRAM card to comply with the A600 pcmcia port, when i get the tech specs / pinouts (already have for the PCMCIA port)!

need to get a34005.a500 rom images (or summink like that)... soon

some games work ( under 2mb games ) anything more than that it crashes out under whdload (hence why i want 4mb fast in there ), regular installed games like UFO / flashback etc work very well as well as some jst installs and obvously a fair few whd installed games...

Was listerning to Sex Machine earlier via the A600 from my James Brown CD

I cannot wait till i get my 37" plasma ... OoooOOooo sooo goood...

This will still have the 4MB restriction correct? (Would be impossible to go over 4MB)

Are DRAM cards a lot cheaper than their SRAM cousins?

PS I dont understand while people are finding Workbench 3.1 slow.

On my 2MB chip/2MB fast A600 it runs perfectly

I have to agree there Smiley, 3.1 on an A600 with 2MB Chip / 2MB Fast is perfectly fine. admittedly not A1200 speed, most most certainly useable!

DId you try to remove preload option in tool types?

Also did you try to run the games from dos?

And could ClassicWB Light work with this setup?

@Anubis,

[Remove preload option]
Indeed, I have not tried removinf the "pre-load" option... i may try this later my friend.

[Running games from dos]
indeed, I have tried, but those that dont wanna play ball (like Hired Guns )
I have recently bought a 4MB Sram from the fleabay so immma hoping it gets here soonies

[Classic workbench Lite]
I cannot see why not, there are some programs that require a downgrade of the libs as there not 68000 compliant, like Dopus (recent ones have only an 020 requirment) there are a couple of other items that may need a re-work, but i will hitup Bloodwych with that one

@KG
email... me.... darn.... please PM wich one you sent it to....

But it was the email with the zip file attached, it contained instructions on how to obtain those files

@ Smiley

Did you ever get the Teac CD-224 drive to work? I am building an A600+ myself after getting one from Fleabay for 25 quid. I have also got an Amiga external floppy and the A600 hard drive cradle for about a tenner or so for the pair from Fleabay as well .

For my project, I have liberated a Compaq CD-224E drive (2000 vintage) from a Compaq Presario which was being dumped at work, it's the right colour and about the right age (retro look ) for this project, the only drawback is the CD drawer front isn't square, it's slightly curved at the top and bottom. The drive has the correct 44 pin IDE lead though. I suspect that this is a Teac drive under the bonnet. It's going to cost nothing to try it I suppose. I already have a 1.4Gb 2.5" hard drive from an old Compaq Armada 4131 laptop which still works but is on it's way to the parts bin (the 14" LCD screen works fine, if anyone wants it for a project (hmm... an A600+LCD? Maybe....).

next on the shopping list are: a buffered IDE interface, a CF to IDE adapter , a 4Gb CF card and a 1Mb expansion for the trapdoor (if I can get one at the right price - any offers???).
