I am the dude he sent the disk to

So I've made an ADF of the disk and uploaded it to the Zone for all to see what might have been.

Thanks to CuLpRiT for sending me the disk so promptly and for calling me "Sir Graham" on the envelope

Thank you but at this stage it's nothing special. Game have pretty AGA title screen but ugly (to me) and "squished" background gfx. It should run on standard A500 with something like that.

Yes, I should stress that while under the Atrophy name, the gfx where all made by Frank Tout, not a graphics artist. And painfully enough, this level was one of the more pleasing of them all (!)

Please refer to the 'frustratinlgyfewEnigmabits' download and/or the released pics, from the first page, to see Wades much more appealing work.

:UPDATE:

Senoir Wade has sifted thru his miggy and found a lot more gfx from the game. Sadly, the rolling demo disks he has are corrupted, but great news that hes found all of these. I havent even seen them for over 10 years, so please excuse the dribble

They are in original format here, iff etc

Was going to offer to see what Wade has got, but seems you've already done that.

Remember him showing me it once and got very excited about it. Not sure I was ever meant to see it but hey I did

Look forward to going through this again!

Ok lads. Time to roll your sleeves up. We need help on getting a newer version of Enigma up and running.

Mr Wade has pulled it out of the hat and come up with two disks.

One is an adf image of a ds0: disk. Probably the first rolling demo disk. In winuae, we cant get it to boot up.

And secondly, he has zipped up a load of files, believed to be some source code for a lot of the levels. With proper gfx, music etc.

One of the files is asm, and I remember using these files when I was starting with the sprite movepaths

I hope u coders out there can assemble these into running levels for the rest of us. And make the ds0: disk easier to access.

Make haste and Good luck!

It is standard FFS formatted floppy (non bootable = no bootblock installed)

Bootable disk attached. Game itself won't work as disk2 is missing.

Edit: If you copy the contents of the big zip (Enigma.zip) to "Work:Enigma" (or create an assign) you can then start Enigma or Enigma3. Assembling the levels is impossible as there are a lot of source files missing. Apparently there's also a registered/cracked version of PicCon included in the zip which is quite nice.

Thanks Stingray!

Funnily enough, you were the first person who sprang to mind when I found these sources, but couldn't find a contact address for you.

I'll give the zip contents a try and see if I can get it running. Thanks again old friend!

Hi old chap, it's been a while, long time no see. Nice to see you here! =) I assume the graphics were done by you, nice job! Shame the game is not complete though. :/

I got it working, so thank you! I'd never have figured out the assign stuff. I've been away from the Amiga too long now.

Sadly it wasn't one of my best looking levels and the copper background was set too dark (we had it so the level fades from day to night), but it's really nice to see it again. We definitely had the other levels functioning, but no idea when or how.

Hope you are keeping well anyway mate. It has been a really long time, though it's good to see you're still actively coding and supporting the Amiga!

Aha! If you rename some of the level folders to "level2" and follow Stingray's instructions, you can see some of the other levels!

Unfortunately you won't get the enemy sprites designed for each specific level and their colours are corrupt (which is a shame as I was really happy with some of them), but you can see some different backgrounds at least.

Thumbs up Getting further...

Hi guys,

Still haven't got the full source-code to Enigma tracked down some early parts but extracted off of some OLD floppies. Be aware I haven't even looked at this code and haven't got a clue which version it is (if it was old, final, production release code, etc.).

At least I found some parts. I'm going to keep digging. Not sure how much value this stuff will be, its so OLD....

Cannot upload everything either as I'm hitting some new user limit????

You could always upload them to the Zone, which might be better.

Be interesting to see what you have got, thanks

Nice work morecode. Some files in the main directory are called Enigma, not Atrophy. So It should have Wades gfx at some level
