Now with more daylight than yesterday night
![]() @Steve: If you want to use a picture for your Shapeways page, I personally think this here looks a bit better compared to the one above ![]() |

OK Seb, I have updated that one, but again, shapeways will print the older version unless you cancel it and reorder, and once the order has moved into its production phase the order cannot be cancelled so better to do this ASAP.
Thanks! |

Great job, Steve! I built customised trapdoors for A600&A1200 myself maybe a year ago (can be found on thingiverse), but yours must be a lot more effective concerning ventilation. It also needs a lot less material, which is also great because it reduces printing costs.
My only complaint would be that the "ribs" do not look like Commodore would have done it this way, but we can only imagine here, so simply ignore it. I didn't do better anyway. ![]() |

Thanks, I worked a long time on the design I think the only departure is the reinforcing / backing lattice, necessary for strength. The vents are otherwise exactly like C= spec, like the row on the front of the lower shell.

Hi Trixter, Thanks for the feedback, I'm sorry you're not happy. Yes it was the revision that was up at the time you ordered it.
The biggest functional change in the newer one is that the fan mount is a little further away from the SIMM so the walls of the mount would clear it, I also removed the walls for even more clearance just in case. Shown in the attachment is the one (same version as yours) that boost modified for the same card, he just removed the wall of the mount and had no issue with the fences (nor did AmigaSith, iirc, - also B1260) it appears that the SIMM socket is well clear so something must be different. It would be the same issue with any other cover if that was the case including the original one which works ok? Its true that the newer one is easier to modify but you would still have the same issue here with the newer one. Boost is getting the latest version this week, it seems Seb will be getting the older version like yours and the one pictured below as he hasn't cancelled and reordered, I expect the card is in production now, but it should be a perfectly functional part if modified as below. Big thanks to Boost for this pic of the Rev2 panel, which apparently fitted perfectly with his 1260, with no need for any modification - check his comment on shapeways

New High-ventilation Expansion Port Cover - A1200
Got mine too. The tab needs to be adjusted a bit, as it's too shallow. But will fit if pressed down hard and twist it a bit so it will clip in. My original cover is a Rev B. Has the new revision fixed this issue?

TJL, Thanks for the pics! btw the stem is exactly the height it should be, but the original part has a stem which is about 0.15 - 0.2mm taller than that, taller than the area in the amiga it clips onto.
To fit these parts don't push fit, instead flex the entire panel a little, you can do this because its nylon (original part is ABS) and the clip goes in easy, holds extremely firm and can still be removed easily. In the latest fan versions of the panel you can't even bend the clip at all. It sounds weird, but its a different material and it works real well so I see no need to change it. I think particularly for the fan versions, the close fit and material properties might help to damp out vibrations/noise, the looser fitting more rigid ABS original, if you could put a fan on it, might well vibrate a lot more. Seb, it would have helped me if you had the most recent also, because I updated the file, which sets the model back to 'first to try'. Well don't get one unless you get another 1260 then ![]() please take a pic of it installed, interested to see how the text turned out ![]() |

Only difference is it doesn't have the extra wiggle room that C= designed in for the ABS push-in parts.
Hope that makes sense now, if you still think there's a problem I'll consider changing it but to me at least they all seem to fit really well, you should find it fits better, more snug, you just have to flex fit it. As far as I can tell, every single panel has fitted the chassis so there's been no inconsistency in the manufacturing over about 20 units & 6 months or more & no difference in case / panel revisions by Commodore. I'm only saying this incase there are people put off because of an issue which doesn't really exist. ![]() Is that another Blizzard btw? ![]() https://www.shapeways.com/product/3U...rt-replacement Last edited by Steve T; 18 October 2015 at 19:39. |
