Hi MheAd! We are finishing off issue 1, but we'll soon be recruiting for issue 2. So, stick around and there should be something soon.

Great!
Thanks alot! I'm looking forward to start writing the articles. Untill I'm in, I would only like to know couple of things. Do you want me to do layout of my articles as well or do you just need plain text + screenshots? In case I'm the one who does the design/layout as well, what program do you perfer to use? |

Are you a designer? Antiriad is our only designer at the moment and it's a big job for one person, so someone to help him might be a good idea.

Ive been using QuarkExpress 5. Its simple but effective. Eventually APoV will be then done as a PDF.

Neither had i till a few months back. Its a very simple programme - too simple for some *cough* *Akira*
You could always use Freehand or Illustrator. |

Quark is poopy, and if you want to be using the " standard", you should all be using macs running the latest Quark 6 for OS X ;P

Most major publications use Quark. I believe Amiga Power was done in Quark, even (probably all of Future Publishing uses it). Most major newspapers, magazines, etc. use Quark, including The New York Times, amongst others. It is not poop. There are features most of you will never see because you've never worked with pagination, but it's a pretty significant part of putting together a real publication. While the stuff I work on at the newpaper is irrelevant in the publishing world (IMHO), I communicate with many publishers and such every day. Finding any serious publisher not using Quark is like finding a needle in a haystack.
And yes, Macs are in heavy penetration, but most of us hate them at the newpaper where I work; only the photographers use Macs and even they had to add a new PC just last week due to all sorts of problems with file formats saving incorrectly on the network and some other issues with the Mac's networking. |
