The high score loop is not behaving as it should, though, but this might be from no 9

I always work on the files that JOTD provides to me, and this one came in this form. He has already requested a change.

@jotd - Would it be possible to fix the background stars bug where they "break up" at the bottom of the screen right where your sprite is and you look at that all the time It seems you are using the same bacground stars routine as in Galaxians where there is the same problem

Yes, that's minor but I agree this is annoying. Would be worth fixing on both games.

A major bug remains: if you shoot your own captured ship, some enemies could freeze permanently. Not blocking as you can still shoot them and complete the stage.

Also if you shoot a capturing ship while in the swarm (not attacking), the captured ship is supposed to attack you and disappear ... only to reappear at the next stage. Instead, the captured ship remains frozen, and you have to shoot it to complete the stage...

So ATM make sure you're accurate when you free your ship

Is because the high score has like a loop until you finish to insert the name and then do the final part, in the actual version the final part is in the loop; suggestion is use a time out like 60 seconds then go to the final part

Oh, I thought you were referring to the 'highest score' but I get what you mean now. Right 'high score' track plays a little longer in the original Galaga.

new version available on itch. I could not wait to upload a new one as the previous ones were soo buggy.

You have 2P game, proper rogue ship behaviour (if you let it flee you get it at the next stage!), swarm sound, better sfx...
