@mcgeezer
Even though we know almost all of Aga HW, I think that if commodore would have release some sort of HW Manual, we could better exploit Aga... |

I remember they went full Atari 800 in that one because they wanted coders to use system functions so to RTG for possible future CPU changes, but in retrospective was definitely a mistake

But then there are the quirks that the pioneers find where even the engineers didnt expect the machine to be capable of some techniques so there is no amount of official documentation that is going to show us that... it needs to be discovered by people trying stuff through denial and error. ![]() Last edited by mcgeezer; 25 May 2021 at 20:04. |

Nobody expect 100% perfect port, but with a lots of compromises. As I said before, Richard did FF for 512kb... and he even left the space for music to be added. So, what can we do with additional 512kb, I ask? Is adding a few moves, and making gameplay feel closer to arcade to much to hope for? Not sure why you keep mentioning arcade hardware, because it's clearly that port needs to be written for Amiga hardware, and not just copy-paste code from arcade. Can you find what arcade machine drive the Mortal Kombat 2 game, because we got amazing port for A500 for that game? |

Final Fight Arcade hardware (CPS1) is basically an electronic puppet theater. It has a camera system, sprite positioning system, an entity parser/handler. If you want to have something matching on Amiga, you have to respect or reuse those. FF amiga main code is 80kb. Richard tried to replicate the system, but could not really, because he had no access to the source. PS : Mortal Kombat II Amiga has been built with the megadrive source code adapted for Amiga. it uses an hardware sprite emulator. |

Plus Mortal Kombat is a different beast from FF, there are only two fighters while in the FF arcade version we have up to 10 at the same time - Super Nes has only four including players though

Does somebody really want to spend 2 years doing a Final Fight port only for the masses to turn around and say "not as good as the arcade"?
CAPCOM, even back then probably had a team of people 10 times more experienced then the best Amiga studio. Kudos to the guys at Metro Siege and especially Alex the programmer because he's cross developing the Amiga version while doing it for other modern platforms. Metro Siege is coming, I honestly don't understand the hard on everyone has for Final Fight. |

That's as far as I'm getting. On a side note, I'm going to try and change my ways. From now on, I too will do my utmost best to learn through denial and error. #denialanderror |

From my point of view better is porting Final Fight II or Final Fight III to Amiga (AGA?). Because these games dont exist on Amiga. After succesfully porting, eventually port of Final Fight can be done much easiest and fastest, because main engine can be reused, and perhaps only small changes will be necessary.

Final Fight II or Final Fight III or whatever it require a lot of time and resource to make them done. Can we afford that? Talk is cheap...

![]() Later games (Captain Commando, Punisher, Cadillac's and Dinosaurs, etc) have more moves and all, but Final Fight was the first game that utilize this sort of gameplay mechanics (Golden Axe mechanics is pretty different (much worse, imho), and so is Double Dragon series). It was inspired by the Streets of Fire movie, and as in the movie, you need to save hot chick. One of the characters study nindjucu (Guy) - and everybody likes ninjas! It has lot's of resemblance from 80's, enemy characters inspired by Guns and Roses band, and Andore character, clearly inspired by the famous wrestler Andre the Giant, and Hoggar player character have moves copied from wrestling shows back in the day... etc... What's there not to like? ![]() |
