This week I finally got hold of a very very nice condition original 1980 edition VCS in box. I have a few VCS units (6 switch, 4 switch, vader, some jnr units) but it has taken me 3 decades to replace what I had in 1990 and this final purchase signals the end of my retro collecting.
Not sure how I feel about it, the excitement of getting new stuff is over but apart from a few exceptions (a3000, Falcon, Jaguar, all those crappy pong consoles) I do have one of everything now, hell I have more than one of my fav' things. Getting a mint condition, just come back from the store with Dad type mint, Commodore 64 box was only last year, the VIC-20 starter pack outer cardboard I gave up on and the VCS signals the end. I am free of ebay, free I tell you! |

As a fellow collector I say congrats i have more consoles than even the nerdiest ppl ever heard of but the hunt for those specific elusive ones is often a case of ”the chase is better than the catch”, a collectors dilemma sort of, even if its nice to reach the goal line. |

I wanted the machines I had as a kid or teen in as close to the condition when mine got lost in a move back from abroad for work during the 1991 recession. I had quite a nice boxed VCS but had to sell it, along with other stuff, about 10 years ago when the company I worked for went bankrupt. I do have a lot of stuff, mostly computers rather than consoles I have too many duplicates of but I now have my original retrogaming history in physical form. VCS (which I got in 1980) VIC-20 (1983) C64 (1984) Colecovision (it was in a bankrupt shop clearance in 1985 for 50 quid) 520STM (1986) Amiga 1000 (1988) Amiga 2000 (1990) I don't have a boxed SNES (1992) and my boxed Megadrive (1990) is not a Hong Kong import like I had but it is the "Hi-definition graphics/stereo sound" early model and the rest is what I bought back then and still own (A1200, PS1, Saturn, N64, PS2, Xbox, Xbox 360, PS3, Wii) You are right, finding those weird machines like Jupiter Ace or Oric-1 (have an Oric Atmos anyway) comes under law of diminishing returns and I don't have the stomach for prices now so I drew a line as I am retired. No Atari Jaguar/Falcon/TT. No Amiga 3000. No Video Genie (have a Color Genie). No Jupiter Ace. No GX4000 (have a 464plus) no CPC6128 (have a 464) and no Commodore 16 (have two Plus/4 machines, one boxed). No Dragon 64(have a Dragon 32) and No Enterprise 64 or 128. Other than that you name it I've got it, or something that will run the games for it plus some NTSC only machine (PC Engine) or foreign machines like Thomson M07. But the VCS box in mint condition was hard to find for a decent price, all I needed was the box so that's all I bought VCS and C64 box in mint condition was the last two on the list. I can live without the stuff I don't have. I hardly ever use the weird stuff like Spectravideo SVI or Sord M5 machines so no more, the house is full anyway! Might do a video on a couple of insane sized bundles when more of the house is done (the 64C and 1541-II box bundle is massive as is the CDTV Multimedia pack box) |

Things I never knew, that is quite amazing! Have the cd kicking around somewhere to, wonder if this is the reason it fetches highish prices on ebay?
