I have an interesting question, on A500 8Mb board, can I disable 4MB if I have another board with ram installed, like A2000 A2091 controller and so on?
thanks |

Hi, NedoPC did not make that info public on his board that had autoconfig and enable/disable options, BUT! i think that putting an on - off switch on pin 14 of RAM 1+2 and another on RAM 3+4 will allow the chips to be disabled. With the current code, both sets would have to be disabled and the Amiga should boot up with no ram visible... (i would have to test once i get some time) edit; One more thing i forgot, the 8mb code should allow 4mb to be installed and still work, but the 4mb code will not work on an 8mb board. So in theory, an 8mb board could have 4mb disabled and still work, again, i'd have to check Last edited by kipper2k; 28 July 2012 at 19:58. |

picture paints a thousand words. This is the A500 - 1.3: 9mb, 8mb board, 512k ram in trapdoor and basic 512k.

What if you mod the amiga 500 rev 6a motherboard to see the trapdoor 512k as chip ram (1mb chip ram in total)?I assume there will be no prob with that right?
Does this fast ram might cause problems to some games? Is there any way to disable it by adding a switch? Also, are you aware of any games that might benefit from this huge fast ram addition? :-) |

Hi All,
Time for an update. I have the boards and i am starting to build them now. I have found an issue with all rev 5 A500 motherboards. The board works with all motherboard revisions (V5.1, V5.2, V5.3, V6a.1, V6a.2, A500+ V8a1.1 and A500 + V8a1.2), however, the placement of the Rom chip on the Rev 5 motherboards conflicts with the through hole 44 pin PLCC socket that i used. The problem that this leads to is in order to plug in the expansion board on the Rev 5 boards an extra set of risers need to be used, which will interfere with the underside of the keyboard. (I didn't have a Rev 5 motherboard and i assumed there was no major placement changes), That'll teach me So here's what i am going to do. If you have the Rev 5 motherboard, stay tuned as i am going to redesign the board so that it sits in a different location. ( probably be about 2 - 3 weeks till i have them) For those with the a500 V6 series and A500+ motherboards the expansion board will still fit. I am in the process of building and will start sending out emails in the next 48 hours or so. I have to head off out of town next weekend for a few daysso i am going to try to do as many as i can so i can mail them in Winnipeg which will save 2 days in the mail system. |

Maybe just one suggestion if you doing redesign again. Use tantalum capacitors instead aluminum electrolytic, there is lot of reasons for doing that.

Hmm, I am one of those with a rev 5 board... I also have a rev8 A500+ but it doesn't boot, presumably due to bad caps...
