Well man, I'll take a piccy very soon...and BANG, you are dead-on!
I inspected the chip with "disconnected" leg and yeah, it would seem that I've actually pulled it part way out of the chip causing internal damage! Managed to get everything back to the standard state and now it powers up to a dark grey screen which is followed a few seconds later by a solid white screen. Hopefully replacing this chip will fix the problem. |

Well, since I've already undone the mod there's not any "hardcore pr0n" to be had...but piccies is piccies
Here is some after-the-fact detail, just for fun/descriptive purposes: Anyway, why on earth did I buy an A1000 in the first place? PZ. |

@Fingers its a PAL (Programmed Array Logic) is a small sized IC that is programmable.
the good news is that these chips are easy to replace, the not so good news is you will need to copy the contents of another and then program the new one to it. (worse case scenario) the good news IS you have a good m8y whom can probably copy the data from that IC and program a new one for you (although no guarantees i am pretty confident its repairable ) Actually i think i have a spare 16L8A... hmm ) just need the code to program it with |

Z-money,
I wouldn't want to put that m8 to such trouble, especially since the A1000 is probably on the bottom of my priority list at the moment...in fact I'd packed it away and given up on even thinking about it until the ROM adaptor arrived yesterday (was it yesterday?). How's about we call it a "one day it'll happen" type of thing? Right now my concerns lay more with things in black boxes that attach to televisions and the more respectable Amiga towers...not the oldest model I can find that's crawling with rust and other forms of oxidisation Anyway, what I'm saying is a BIG thanks to anyone who has helped here (everyone who has replied really), but for now I really can't see myself investing any more time into the A1000...I've got bigger fish to fry PZ. |

@Fingerz
My friend, i understand, when a project gets like this its wise to just box it up, and come at it another day.. so, what are we trying to do with these black boxes? |

@Fingers:
regarding the "rusty cradle" in your A1000, I opened my A1000 and it has one of those too (though mine isn't rusty) I guess it's a standard part for God knows what... |
