Seemingly aminet was nearly lost forever by a hard disc failure once upon a time.
I already perform such backup

I expected so, but I also thought all the hardware and hosting can't be free, (or if it is someones generosity might run out), and a kickstarter might be a good way for you to get a hold of all the offers of help.

But maybe it is not appropriate, I know nothing about how this place is run, just happy it exists.

I am happy to provide a mirror http or ftp of anything that could be useful. Rather than being considered a backup, it is of course useful for high traffic sites to share out load (and reduce the need for download limits) and overall file availability during any downtime. exotica has multiple mirrors for example, and I mirror a bunch of other sites including aminet, and the manual site (just an ftp mirror).

If I ever win the lottery I'll buy some shares in Google and have them host EAB at multiple server farms around the globe

I'll also rent 10% of the Cray Jaguar for redundancy/processing power when Shoonay 'searches' EAB (all that scientific calculation stuff can do one!)

So I guess it's time to find a new hard drive
Abime.net was offline during last 12 hours because the backup hard-drive was faulty again.
I changed it this morning to a brand new one, no more hardware problem scheduled
