Sorry for having bothered you. One believes to find enthusiasm and support from those who share a common past and instead you get accused of clickbaiting.
It's not hard to get the point: until the announcement of the official product development, my fangame blog was intended to publicly show it once finished, with a download link. Even this thread on EAB was born like that in 2020, just look at the first post. Therefore, these criticisms are very, very unfair given the situation. It is not difficult to understand the uncomfortable situation that arises when, while developing something, the IP holder comes out with the same thing in an official version just when, after decades, no one would have believed it could happen anymore, because the IP seemed dead and buried. I worked in the spare time for many years, 10 with long interruptions, and just a few steps away from the finish line, I get overtaken. "Show it or shut up", you say. Very supportive. Do you want me to challenge them publicly and risk a cease and desist letter, troubles with lawyers, etc.? I'm one of the fangame developers who have been defeated. I'm simply accepting the defeat and try to behave correctly. I'd just want to let old fellow retrogamers know about a long work of passion: is this also a crime? So if something can't be openly shared, at least not for the time being, given the official release, it can be shown to people who potentially can appreciate it, and shared in private, as people on other retro-forums already asked for, becoming testers. Behind all this, there is a beautiful human story that deserves to be told - the story of three generations. My father and I played the first Impossible Mission together when it was released in 1984, and I was just a kid, while he was a programmer in BASIC. Our enthusiasm for such a masterpiece was sky-high. Then, once I became a father myself in 2010, I started developing the third chapter as a fangame, and the work was progressing slowly while my son was growing up. A week after I started this very thread on EAB and opened my blog to show the game's development, my father died of Covid-19 in october 2020. I resumed working on the game after another break, and particularly in this past year I've had the constant help of my son, who is now the same age I was when I played the first game with my father. IM3 was completed thanks to the collaboration of the third generation of players and programmers. Father and son (in memory of grandpa) would like to show the game to fellow retrogamers, but something went wrong just when they were hoping to make it happen. I hope it's clearer now. |

Thanks for sharing your story and sorry to read about your loss. I would wait until the IP has cooled off again before doing anything publicly with your game.

I think this game definitely should have to be released on the Amiga. And if it will come out, I'd like to buy in a boxed format to put besides to other classic titles.

First I've seen this thead. I guess I just wasn't looking! The C64 game was called "Mission: Impossible" to dodge the movie and TV show title "Impossible Mission". (Or was it the other way around?) If there were a similar dodge, I'd recommend trying it. Otherwise, the tribute to your late father is a good enough reason to have created it.

I'm so sorry for your loss.
As for game in IP, you know the best what is good for you. It is your work, patience and your rules when to release it, if ever. (got to think about that next generation ) For me it would be awesome if you could help someone release A1200 version, but again, it is your time and your work... |
