Tried the game now. Really nice
How many colors does the menu screen use?
Maybe possible to reduce colors to make faster refresh?

I see... so should I find a CD32 gamepad in order to use everything (machine gun, mines, etc...)?

I haven't tried that but if it is possible to play using the keyboard, wouldn't be possible to run a program that maps keys to the joystick just before starting the game?

I've never done so on Amiga (and I even don't know if such a program do exist) but I have done it on Linux for a few games.

The menu uses 256 colors, just like the game. To make it faster on AGA, you can install BlazeWCP for Workbench 3.1, SystemPatch for 3.0 or similar patches that speed up the OS C2P functions.

A CD32 pad is probably the most convenient option, but the game also supports up to 3 buttons on regular joysticks. I'm not aware of a lot of those existing though, most Amiga joysticks only have 1 or 2 buttons.
The game is system friendly so programs that convert button presses to rawkey input events should work.

I've just found on aminet a few programs that should map joystick input to keyboard.
I'll check them out as soon as I have a moment.

Let me know if any of them works. You'll probably have to use port 1 if the program support it, otherwise it'll clash with the built-in joystick input.

Nice, I'll put a note about this into the readme. I was going to edit the first post too, but there seems to be some database issue, so I'll attempt it later.

Without active parts Amiga joysticks max support 2-button. C64 support 3-button.
2-button is fine in this game I think but maybe space for mines.

I think button 1 should be accelerate, button 2 mines and "up" for fire.

I tried a PS2 interface to CD32 pad but it did not work as it should.
I have a honneybee CD32 pad. I can try that one also.

Edit: Tried CD32 pad. Works, but there are a couple of things. When I put mine it seamed like the game triggered autofire on that button since all mines where dropped after that.
It is also hard to shoot while holding gas. For CD32 pad I would put accelerate to L1 and R1 Buttons.

No need for active parts, you just have to pull POTY low:
http://wiki.icomp.de/wiki/DE-9_Joyst...n_modification
This is is how the middle mouse button works on 3 button mice.

Yes, you are right. I though this was only for C64 but it is POTX for C64 and POTY for Amiga. I will try this

There is a bug regarding "mines" They are triggered by fire button and not 3rd button as I though.
They will all be put out 1 by one if you buy them and fire a little.

From joypad test the button 3 I wired to POTY register as P/M

Sorry, I missed the edit you've made to the post about the mod. Could you also try with JoyPortTest with lowlevel.library checked? What do button 1,2,3 show up in the test program?

Thanks, this was very helpful! It turns out that I made a very stupid typo... I'll fix this and upload a new version.

Tried it now, and it works really well, great work!

It would perhaps be more logical if enter in the menu and accelerate were mapped to the same button though.
(I stood still on start, and unintentionally pressed esc and left a race a few times, haha)

And it seems the car slows down too much when turning sometimes, but it could perhaps just be a drop in framerate. (Edit: Played a bit more and I don't think it is a drop in framerate)

(A3000T, CS MK3@50mHz, CV64, competition pro pad, OS 3.2.2)

Anyway - what an awesome surprise, I love this game!

I'm not sure if making the Fire button Escape in the menues would be much more intuitive. Could you tell me more about where did you press escape accidentally? A screenshot or video would help a lot.
Regarding the slowdown, I recommend comparing it to the DOS or Steam version, the saves are compatible. If it feels different I can look into it.
