Well, he asked if it would work with a Mediator card or would he have to go back to stock. And I was just saying, sure it'll work, not giving estimates one way or the other what would be better. I mean it *might* not work since you know some Zorro cards don't like Mediators, but there's no reason to assume based on what we know that it wouldn't work. I mean sure Voodoo cards are getting expensive, but probably not as expensive as this. But it has the potential to be fast, just really no way of knowing yet. |

Judging by its predecessor, it's not in the vicinity of a Voodoo.

Yeah, I mean that's why I was curious whether it supported Zorro 3 speeds. For some people a 2d card which had a fast Zorro interface might be more useful than a Voodoo, which has rather slow Zorro 3 interface via Mediator. All the extra stuff mentioned like accelerated JPEG/PNG decoding might be useful to someone. Just the sheer frankensteined nature of it is intriguing, to me at least. We could even fantasize that it could support Zorro 3 DMA too and be the only Z3 RTG card which does so, not that I'm expecting it or that it is even likely. If it does even 1/4 of the stuff that it is capable of I'd want one. Got to fill up those Zorro slots on the Mediator. |

So how will the AGA scandoubler work on the MNT ZZ9000? I only see a Zorro connector, no video card connector. Do we have to feed the AGA signal differently into the card?

https://shop.mntmn.com/products/va2000cx It has been designed this way (like its predecessors) so that it works with an A2000 where the Zorro slot and the Video slot are not inline. I would have liked the "snappable" integrated PCB feature the PIV has but it probably wasn't practical. Last edited by alexh; 18 July 2018 at 16:51. |

I still wonder if it will be running Linux, and hence be useful for more creative stuff too.

I think that Lukas has been busy working on the updated VA2000 drivers/firmware during the last week (version 1.9.0b2 released today!). He has also posted a few messages on a1k during the last day or so after releasing the initial 1.9.0 beta. Bear in mind that this is a one man show after all...

Still not talking to us even though he's been back on the forum since he posted this. Why would anyone pre-order this when you can't even reply to us and answer our queries?

He writes that basic ARM assembly is running. However his claim about no context switches is weird.
He says the 68k controls the ARM cpu and he says the ARM cpu uses interrupts to signal the 68k when it is done doing its job.... but in my eyes that IS a context switch. You still need to send data back and forth to the 68k. |

Cool project. I'd like to know more before putting down some hard earned cash though. It looks to be a dev-board with a Zorro interface, so it is pretty open as far as capabilities are concerned.
It reminds me a bit of the Vampire, but without CPU acceleration. My number one question would be how fast is it compared to other RTG solutions? |

I asked Lukas for information and he said 'zz9000 will take up steam and have more info in around 2 weeks.'

On the MNT website it says:
“Includes enhanced VA2000CX Amiga native video passthrough functionality with AGA support ("scandoubler")” I don’t understand the reference to AGA since A1K/A2K/A3K don’t support AGA and I’ve read elsewhere that you can’t implement AGA on those models via Zorro? So I’m assuming it means that you get AGA support from the card? Is that correct? |

Incorrect, it means the scandoubler supports the full 24 bit colour space provided by the AGA video slot.
