So this is an IDE->SATA Bridge device, it looks like it would work with both 2.5" and 3.5" HDD's I take it

I may end up trying this out but only if I can get my NIC to work otherwise I'll be looking at getting an x360 to replace it with.

OK, after much downloading with same good/no-intro sets of various versions, I have compiled a "good" collection of snes/megadrive/sms-gg/nes roms to use with the "ressurection extras" screenshots and packs.
If anyone wants the files PM me so I can send you a DVD or something...
the "ressurection extras" project even though it is nice and flashy, their choise not to adhere to good or no-intro naming scheme is questionable... the names would not matter IF the dats they give are OK, but alas... anyway, I have complete 99.5% sets (only 5-10 weird jap roms missing) so... pm me if interested

Has anyone recently ordered and tried those on a xbox? I ordered two times. The first bunch did not work at all. Today three other arrived (the price is so ridicilous), but I can't get them to work. Most of the time I just get Error 9, once in a while Auto Installer boots and I can work with the drive just fine. Then again, it does not work at all again. Strangely it only worked when I did not attach jumpers ie. the drive was configured as master. Anyone with any pointers?

Sorry, I only have the two (one ordered a year ago, and another when I started the thread). Do they look identical to the one I posted? The other adapters I tried get random errors like you mentioned.

Questions:
What modchip (if any)?
What BIOS?
What kind of HD?

Yes, they look the same, apart from missing the "QC Passed" label . But it really seems to be a hardware issue. I also tried them in the pc with 3 different sata drives and they simply do not work. For some the drive identifier is displayed correctly on the bios screen. Booting is impossible though and if I boot a system from a different drive while another one is attached to the converter, the system won't boot: Windows 7 just hangs and Linux kernel reports a lot of errors on the device/bus.

This is kinda unnerving. I now have 5 adapters and none works.

The fact that it doesn't work in a PC is very bad. It could be the adapter doesn't like the HD itself (or you are really unlucky and got 5 dead adapters!).

I'm about to order another one for myself. I'll post here if I have any trouble.

Let us know how it goes because I've been asked to upgrade a friends xbox and I cannot get hold of any decent sized new PATA drives. I wanted to recycle an old one but he was having non of it.

So,
today I got another 3 from DE (free of charge. Nice service!) Those do not work, neither. For now I'm giving up on these devices and try to get an ata drive somewhere. If anyone wants to try the adapters I'd be more then happy to give them away.

@Jerry

Got my last adapter in and tested today and it works perfectly just like the other ones. I put a Seagate 500GB SATA in to test and got it all partitioned, formatted, and XBMC installed. Not sure how you got so many bad ones.

Stupid question but you are plugging the IDE cable in the correct way right?

Alex - old thread I know...and I have probably asked you this before but... these links are dead now and I wondered if you could recommend a replacement Fan for the original Xbox which is available...

Thanks

Also - Dumb Question.... how do you find out what revision of Xbox you have?

A 70mm, 7v, Acoustifan is a perfect replacement, plugs into the standard XBOX fan. It is almost silent at 7v and when combined with the acoustifan rubber gasket it is imperceptible at 10% speed in XBMC and only just audible at 100% speed in games.

If you have a 1.0 or a 1.1 XBOX with a GPU fan then you should sell or ditch it and get a v1.2!

Not quite sure why you'd want that much storage. Only XBOX native games need to be on the XBOX hard drive, everything else can be on the network.

Not to mention that 1.5TB hard drives are still stoopid money at the moment. You can get a 750GB for less than 1/4 the price.

Try the wayback machine, if your after specs on fan. Maybe you could match one up.

Or maybe this would be a suitable replacement;

70 x 70 x 25 is pretty much bang on the size of the original FOL so that maybe worth a go cheers - I also found this one http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/4002338391...84.m1438.l2649

Not sure if the make is any better or worse... I guess either would do the trick...?

These two make an XBOX-1 rev1.2+ almost completely silent. They don't 100% fit the original fan because of the custom retention clips but I just used 2x cable ties at the top to hold it in place.

Thanks for the links Alex.

Stupid Question - what way round do these fans fit in - I notice that some Fans have arrows on them - should the arrows being pointing inwards into the Xbox?

Alex - Re; installation of a new hard... I am using Krayzies 007 game save and xboxhdm_v1.9 - I'm creating the CD ISO but I am a bit puzzled as to how you back up your own personal C and E drives as I can only see the shadow C via FTP.

It still works because I just re-apply the softmod afterwards so an answer isn't essential but I just wondered how you get the actual C and E drives and not the shadow C ?

I'm at work so I can't test but I think they are :

E:\backups\

You bypass shadow C by running E:\ndts\default.xbe
