Unless I'm picking it up wrong, your first partition is around 3.7GB, but the info command from 3.1 isn't calculating the size correctly, which gives the negative number. It should be ok, though some software still gets confused with anything over 2GB. A negative size like that can also be a symptom of having partitions greater than 4GB, which will often work fine until they start writing above the 4GB mark, after which you can kiss goodbye to your data, but if it's definitely less than 4GB you should be fine.

Edit: This is specifically for the boot partition, because it needs to boot that with the ROM-resident driver. Once a new driver is loaded, all the other partitions can be whatever sizes the new driver and filesystem support.

You can have a single full size partition on a 8GB CF card using the stock scsi.device if you use a directscsi capable filesystem. This is what I do, I always hate slicing up the disk.

Maybe unrelated to this particular setup but using pfs3, it's stated in these cf card setup instructions...

"You’ll get one info dialog so just click Continue and you’ll get correct geometry values. Don’t mind Size negative size. That’s only visual, HDToolBox wasn’t meant for drives so big so they never bothered to use big variables, this is simple programming variable overflow, drive will be formatted correctly."

Source: (You'll need to scroll way down to where the hdtoolbox instructions for hard drive setup are)

As long as you use PFS3, it should be all right.

Yep, the older versions of HDToolbox, info and even Workbench itself will often display negative sizes and it's basically a cosmetic issue in software that uses signed 32-bit integers to calculate free space.

Good point about the direct SCSI supporting up to 8GB - just make sure the version of PFS3 you're using does actually support direct SCSI.

And if I'm not mistaken, you should use file system identifier PDS/3 to force it into direct SCSI mode.

Doesn't PFS AIO auto detect direct scsi/TD64/NSD?

I don't know. One thing on my todo-list is to write a manual for PFS3AIO since it doesn't come with one.

It does, but you can force it to try DS first if you use the PDS\3 dostype.
