I've read that the JIT is very good, but I'd prefer to have native drivers, particularly for sound and network. I'd also prefer to have as little running under emulation as possible. At least until I have OS4 running on a 1GHz+ G4.

Ok, OS4 is out for classics.
You'll need:
-A v.v. old PPC board
-A 1/4 decent GFX card
-A 1/8 decent Sound card

but:
3/3 of the above won't work properly because:
-I can't find any out-of-production zorro cards
-None of the PCI boards have DMA / any support
-No PPC-native drivers.
-I won't pay that much for an ancient PPC board anyway
.
.
I'll get a 'modern' OS4 machine...
Um, no I can't.

ok
OS4 with Paula + AGA... Yay!

Did anyone mention an x86 port..?

If all this sounds a touch negative - it is! The sad truth is I would buy OS4 in a flash if there was any point! It wouldn't need to be a good point - 'geek value' would do... It doesn't have to be of any practicable use... mumble, mumble, mumble, mumble, mumble, mumble... I'll stick with Amithlon a bit longer - It's more 'high-end' than any OS4 box anyway.

Not all PCI cards need DMA
There are PPC native drivers

Posts like this are pointless, we know that the majority of people on this board don't have a system that will run OS4. It's not Hyperion or AIncs' fault if AmiJoe or Shark are vapour.

Same goes for pro/anti Hyperion/Ainc whingers at aw.net. Who cares who broke the terms of the contract first.

I have got a suitable system and I couldn't care less about the politics, so I'll be running OS4 as soon as it's released.

Good for you!

Simply enjoying the pointlessness of all this:- AOS4 was supposedly written to be portable, but will never be released in a form that could allow the vast majority of us to use it.

Vaporware & politics seem to be all we have so we may as well have fun with it.

LMAO.... not to sure about pointlessness of it all... but most certainly the IRONY!!!!!! which is a bit like goldie and bronzie except made from iron....

okay okay.... enoughs enough....

What ever the Slobbering Fanboi's say it doesn't mean anything.

The only thing Hyperion are releasing 30th NOV, in is another FINAL OS4 update... in the form of.... wait for it.... "OS4"....

so if you have an Amiga 1 or such like.... power to you,

please enjoy the fact you were stupid enough to get sucked into a proprietary hardware/OS solution that was totaly dead before production, and praise be for for Linux for if it wasn't for that you would be fucked by now.

bah! see these kinda threads get me ranting... sorry for the amiga 1 thing... OS4 release still blows.... imma gonna go and clean up some Fanboi drool before some one slips over.....

You're right. 2GB of RAM for a Vista PC is much cheaper.

it's just that MOS PUP seems to be dead nowdays, nothing has been updated since aprox. two years back

We didn't get the Trance update or the 3D update like the regged Peg owners got for example

I doubt MOS 2.0 will be released for PUP
