Hi Toni,

Sorry for the late reply to email and thread, fell asleep

The good news, the GUI freeze is gone with this new version but the bad news is that I did what you asked above and I can recreate the sound glitch / scratchy sound on ANY setting in the sound menu just by going in and out of the gui via F12.

Whatever setting I used, mono, 11500, etc etc I could get it to glitch, auto switching made no difference, the only settings where you had no glitch or status bar sound overload (ie 200% or above) was disabled but emulated or disabled.

What did stop the glitch was to change a sound setting (any setting) and that stopped the glitch BUT if you went in and out of the GUI again a few times then the glitch came back.

Hope something can be taken from this?

Yup..All the same...Just tried them.

Just want to check that I'm not missing something filewise, as I said before I'm running the newer b8 in its own separate directory with only a path to the roms. Anything else in that directory is self created by WinUAE or was in the b8 zip.

Is that all I need?

It's just I'm desperate to make sure it's not 'my' system causing the error and have you chasing an error on my part. Obviously I've seen the others having the same problem but I want to make it as laboratory as possible.

Btw, I even made sure I wasn't having complications with other programs and shut down as much as possible.

Toni, I'm afraid to say.......IT WORKS!

Thanks for fixing it...

In layman's terms what was the issue?

I presumed some variables / locations were not always being preserved or corrupted when either entering or leaving the GUI?

Btw, Happy New year (a little early I know) to you and all on here..

Restarting sound from paused state (happens for example when exiting GUI) didn't reset all variables correctly and depending on sound card sound system got confused sooner or (much) later..

I dont want to ruin the fun but im going to say ..mostly works

the main problems appear fixed, but 4 channel mode is still dropping channels. the two channels that are normaly sent to rear speakers are not being played .

Stereo mode is working fine as is going in and out of f12 in stereo mode.

Clone mode sounds messy, like its overlaying stereo over stero and slightly out of sync instead of outputing the cloned stereo over the rear speakers.

Blimey, based on my previous post all those years of poor 6502 & 65816 programming have given me the huge insight of an emulator programmer.

Step aside Toni, I'll take over now

Seriously, thanks for the humongous work on the emu Toni

What sound card?

Exact same happens if I use digital output (My MB has ALC888D sound chip than has DTS or DD encoding) but works properly with analog connection..

<some googling here>

Apparently it is driver "feature", most cards only support 2 or 5.1 or 7.1 but no 4 channel stream. Most suggestions were something "fix is to use 5.1 stream with center and subwoofer channel zeroed"....

WinUAE's previous method was not exactly right (and it fails here with 64-bit drivers), I guess I'll add workaround that tries old method first and falls back to new method if old initialization fails. It is too late for "5.1 fix".

Does this work: http://www.winuae.net/files/b/winuae.zip ?

http://www.winuae.net/files/b/winuae.zip updated again (30.12.2006)

NForce2 MB 4-channel sound works now (tried with old Audigy 1 but didn't find my original driver CD and Creative's driver updates need original driver installed, really great customer support..)
