It is all related to that childhood trauma : John Carmack : "the Amiga is not powerful enough to run DOOM." So we never get enough of Doom. Now i would like to run multiple Dooms at once on my Amiga to show to that guy. |

The value of Doom is not only in the engine but also in the level design, character design, animations, music, sounds... With all due respect to Dread devs, they are not Carmack and Romero, so using that engine to create a Doom that runs on A500 (even expanded) it is at least as interesting as Dread itself, if not more, cause OCS/ECS are the only platforms that don't have a proper port running at playable framerates, while Megadrive and Snes do. Just trying to help people to realise the limitations of their suggestions by asking the obvious questions.

Dread works on the ST
At a guess the way it was designed is not suited to Tile based systems. Star Fox required an FX Chip. The Amiga probably wouldn't. |

Having SNES version graphics used with ADoom comapatiable WAD would make Doom more playable 020/030 Amigas, as it is even more cut down compared to Atari Jaguar WAD.

Let's face it, upgrader users were always the minority, especially among gamers. I remember people refusing to upgrade from 512K. |

Let's not forget that he still the engineer numero uno at id Software when clickboom went for an official Quake port.
More than likely, if an Amiga games company had offered to port Doom, it could've happened, but who was going to do that? It took a port of the leaked Quake source to show that it was possible technically. After that, it was just licensing. There were fully playable Amiga doom ports within days of the source going open. |
