As a FF user I am directly concerned by this issue. Even if I reported it some times in the past, I would definitively not put it in the "terrible" group. Furthermore actually, on my side, it appears only on irregular and rate basis. A bit annoying, yes. That I can live with it, yes. That requires a forum engine change, no.

Out of interest, is the problem the forum software or the theme? I'm forever zooming in and out on the phone but on a computer the site is fine.

I think it would be change for the sake of change. And that always works out so well, don't you think?

It's all the same for me as long as a brand new set of smileys / emoticons is implemented .

Do we want to make this poll? @RCK, what do you think?
As per my original question I would like to understand first if you @RCK (as EAB maintainer) feel comfortable taking on such initiative. After all it's work on you (not us) so I believe the last word is yours. By reading this comment I infer you wouldn't personally be against, if the majority agrees to be in favor to a migration to another solution (please correct my understanding). thanks |

Just as note: On vBulletin @<username> doesn't do anything.

Fair point, I know that but I keep on using the "@" out of habit (lol)
This, by the way, is one of the reasons I would not be against attempting a migration to a different solution. See comment with my observations about the alternative solution suggested by RCK. |

HARD PASS. EAB is one of the very few websites left that can be browsed on an Amiga without having to have a PC connected via AmiFox. Losing that is a massive problem for me and will result in my leaving the forum permanently. Why do you people always insist that modern is better? |

Since you're one of the EAB users using a real Amiga, would you mind sharing the setup you use to visit EAB? Also, can I ask you if you could navigate through https://www.amibay.com a little bit with the same setup you're using to visit EAB? I am curious to learn if there's a substancial difference. Asking because the traffic network log I see on the developer toolbar of my browser - on both EAB and Amibay - doesn't suggest a huge difference in data transfer. thanks! |

Don't generalize.
I can venture a guess phones have something to do with it (perhaps that has already been said, if so sorry for repeating). The forum isn't exactly built to cope well with smaller screens. Don't care myself, not everything should be done on a phone. I manage in the subway just zooming and scrolling where needed. |

Very true.
As a notion to why 'modern' might be 'better': Maintenance. Keeping things working for both Amiga browsers and 'modern' solutions creates issues. The issue with bots on this forum would be much less of a problem if there would be a 2FA. vBulletin has 2FA support... from version 5.3.0 onwards. I get that people want this forum to be accessible from Amigas, but that has tradeoffs. |

Before 2FA, mobile phone number was the most difficult data to gather as almost nobody was willing to provide it (privacy reason). It was a big problem for the GAFA as it is the data that has the most value (usually we have it always with us and thus we are traceable at all times thanks to GPS (like a snail whose path can be followed thanks to its slime)....
2FA is an "attrape-nigaud" (sucker's game?) as well as a nightmare when for any reason you don't have access to your mobile phone or the phone network is not available... Last edited by malko; 05 July 2024 at 07:35. |
