With a 14MHz EC020, switch off the caches and more often than not it will go away.
I'm not sure if i ever tried that? but i'm also sure my version of relokick does that anyway? (V1.4a).

It does not bother me anymore as I got a nice clean A500 from DoogUK to play any game that will not run on my A1200 My old A500 eventually died completely.... but now i have a better one

The best thing about 1200's is that you can still buy them new

Add a new flicker fixer

And a new accelerator

Then you'll be laughing (well skint and laughing anyway).

I can't remember the last time a used my A500

A1200 +68030@40MHz(min) +16MB FastRAM(Min) + HD/CF + WHDLoad Registration. Ultimate WHDLoad Gaming, you do not need an A500

Last weekend

Just get an A1200 now and there you go No reason for an A500 if it's not a real bargain or you are hopelessly nostalgic (like me )

Sorry for being a PITA, but I need to confirm this:

Quote:
Once the PCMCIA CF drivers and filesystem are installed on your HD (or IDE->CF card) the PCMCIA adapter would appear as a drive in Workbench if inserted.
Does this mean, that I can also boot with a wb-floppy and the "pcmcia-cf-hd" is ready to rock when wb gets loaded? This would of course be the cheapest way to use whdload, right? So, I wouldn't have an internal hd at all, just the "external" pcmcia-cf-hd.

Think you misunderstood. He ment after you install the drivers etc etc on your HDD. Then when you insert the Pcmcia adapter, it will show up on your workbench screen as a drive.

You missunderstood something as FOL already said. Anyway, it IS possible to use a PCMCIA CF card as an HD replacement. Read this thread carefully, ask ppill if you need more details.

Thank you for encouraging me to get me a A1200 I'm quite convinced

One more thing (I wonder how many times I've started a post like this

The talks on the amount of RAM... A1200 has the default 2mb. Do I need more for the whdload-stuff to work? I'm planning to (only) run games, that were originally designed for A500 (some with the 512k expansion). I understand that the wb takes some RAM, but I still have over 1 mb left, right?

To load multi-disk games into Ram at once you should have some more than 2 MB. 4 or even better 8 MB fast Ram would make a perfect oldschool gaming machine

Its good decision to get A1200 but if you wanna play only A500 games, wouldnt be better to try them with WinUAE first? And then consider about buying A1200?

edit - I was considering buying A1200 few weeks ago as well (the thread was in OT) and have made decision to buy CD32 for playing original CD32 games and games from CD32 compilations (these are classic disk games). For the rest I will use WinUAE.

I've got a spare Microbotics MBX1200 with an 8MB SIMM. Probably cheaper to get something closer but if you're interested, let me know.

I sold off all my Amiga 2000/4000/500/CD32 stuff, just kept half a dozen A1200 (and two still unsold A600). The A1200 is simply the best machine for my needs - playing games.
Harddisk/accelerator/compact flash adapter/a dozen joysticks are of course required.

You need at least 4MB to run many games without problems and fast, better 8MB. Of course 16MB+ makes working with Directory Opus (=installing games) far easier...

Trying to work with my A600 with 1+1MB RAM and whdload was a nightmare, with an additional 2MB PCMCIA card it became managable, but still a pain in the ass compared to the 64Mb I use in the A1200.
