Managed to get some time to do the boing red/white square pattern design - pics at link in my sig. Port and panel labels next then lacquer coat(s) to seal paint and decals - then final stage assembly can begin!

Those PC -> Amiga keyboard interfaces like I believe you have deal with two separate issues.
1. The Amiga keyboard has its own microcontroller, which sends/receives serial keycodes. The keyboard controller in an AT keyboard uses a different communications protocol. The PC -> Amiga adapters translate the differences. Therefore, you cannot use a PC keyboard without an adapter that includes a microcontroller which does the translation. Likewise, putting an Amiga keyboard on a PC -> Amiga adapter doesn't work, as the adapter is expecting PC keycodes and protocols from the keyboard.

2. Pinouts need to be correct. As far as I know, A2000/3000/4000 keyboards are all exactly the same internally, down to the microcontroller - however, the A4000/CDTV uses a mini-din connector instead of the DIN on the A2000/A3000. You can use an A4000 keyboard on an A2000 with a simple adapter that just connects the correct signals.

Hmm.

Is the keyboard interface you're using really the Elbox PC-Key 1200?

According to BBOAH, it will support PC and Amiga keyboards.

Thus the A1000 keyboard should also work when you wire it up.. You just need to be sure that you start counting the pins from the correct direction.

Could you post the url inline? Many of us browse with sigs disabled, and can't be arsed to enable them for one link. (I'm sure I'm only speaking for myself ;-)

@Adrian:

Nice modding there old chap - takes bravery to butcher a bit of history, well done on your result.

A small point:
Call me sad 'n picky but one thing that really annoys me about the A1200 is how far PCMCIA cards stick out of the side...
...is there room to move the A1200 mobo over a bit in the A1000 case so it sticks out less?

Sorry been a bit busy and just caught up with the all thread posts here.

Regards the PCMCIA slot... yes it is a little bit annoying to have the card stick out so far I agree, but I couldn't move the main board over easily anymore (only approx an inch left in the case) because of the scsi pcb/block in my setup butting against expansion board ram and components.

There are 2 more final pics of it all in place and working...

http://bit.ly/Amiga2200

Cheers and thanks for all comments,

Adrian.

If you don't have a masterplan for the A1000 innards + keyboard (or just the psu and keyboard), drop me a line with your asking price. :-)

Regards the old A1000 board, I've since safely packed it all up and have decided to keep it. I've got the random idea of putting in an arcade cabinet later on, as I've seen Amiga in arcade form many years back on my travels in the games industry.

Thanks.

Hey nice job! The red paint finish makes it look quite unique.

But wouldn't "Our Father" Jay be and saying - nooooo my A1000!!

lol

Thanks and regards Jay, yes I know but I like to think I did it all some justice and since doing the mod I've not stopped using it of late, which has to be better than it sitting in the cupboard gathering dust. At least now it's a conversation piece perhaps.

I need to soak test it further too as I'm not sure how hot the psu heatsink plate gets after long periods and it's a few mm from touching the inside top lid of the plastic case. I think I might run boing demo on it all day today and keep an eye on it perhaps. As the paint work is so new it all still mildly pongs a bit with the natural running system heat further baking the paintwork... that should pass soon when I've used it for a bit.
