DH0 should be set to bootable as far as I remember, but of course there is no software installed. I would just expect it to boot to a command line though. The WB installation could then be done simply by copying all files from the disks onto DH0. Does the install command work with hard disks or only floppies?
If you want 3.1 without having the floppies, then we cannot help you here as they are still being sold. The images are not hard to find though. Edit: I am thinking maybe you just need to format both partitions. Since the actual partition was not overwritten it will just contain junk, including the file table. Formatting it can be done by booting from a regular WB disk and formatting the partitions through there. Remember to use quick format so it only resets the file table. Format does indeed work. I now have a nice blank DH0: with a Trashcan, and DH1: only has 922 cylinders of verification to go!
My end game here is to try to restore a backup of my original childhood Amiga hard disk, that was taken using ABACKUP. I have 50 floppies here waiting to be restored... Last edited by Starglider 2; 22 May 2015 at 07:08. |

Only way I see is to delete DH1 in HDToolBox, re-read the drive parameters, and create DH1 again. I'm not sure if re-reading the drive parameters will destroy the partition table? If it does, then an alternative would be to just resize DH1 in HDToolbox and make it a bit smaller, enough to fit your card. You can make it 30 cylinders smaller, then there should be room. Then it can be reformatted. If you mess anything up, it's easy to get back to where you started from.

Thank you for that. Somehow, I deleted then recreated the partition in HDToolbox, then emulated Windows XP on my Mac, then ran Amiga Explorer, then used its format command to format DH1: successfully!
