There is no 'official' IPF of this game! Is this just a plain ADOS disk with no protection? Last edited by BarryB; 01 November 2020 at 19:28. |

@BarryB
I don't know if disk 1 is protected but I'm pretty sure disk 2 has a copy protection. Unfortunately I have the game but on the disks there was a cracked version of the game... |

Hi,
I just got my hands on a retail release of Clown-o-Mania. Does SPS still want this? They only have the budget release. Thanks! |

So another GCR protection, Alternate Reality being the other one!

Super Methane Bros is now in disk-analyse. But untested as my old UAE doesn't deal with GCR setup in ADKCON (and possibly no UAE does, but I haven't checked).

But I will say the bit timings are non MFM so potentially if you write out or read back with a later PC drive, things may not work out. You want an original Amiga drive in the Amiga, definitely, and it won't hurt to use one for writing the disk, either. EDIT: Also I pushed a fix on top of the original commit. See if 'git pull' is clean on your local repo. EDIT2: Time between fluxes on the track is up to nearly 12us. Some drives start reading weak/random bits with anything more than 10us. EDIT3: It may also depend on what you write back with. I'm confident Greaseweazle will handle the gapless IPF track I generate, but it's quite non-standard and maybe DTC hates it. I haven't checked! My repo is up to date, so must have updated after your 'fix'.
I dumped on a Sony MPF920 from 2007, I think I have a spare Chinon somewhere though so could dump with that if I find it? I've never written it back to disks only used the CT RAW / IPF in WinUAE, neither images work though! |

I have Z-out MFM IPF but Stingray says that some tracks are corrupt. Was it ever dumped officially?

It seems to read the track, no MSBSYNC, no FAST (ADKCON is zero) and expects to get enough words CCCC, 9999, 6666 or 3333. It should work already because there is nothing timing sensitive. It looks like the image is not 100% correct.

As Keir said, it may need to be dumped on a proper Amiga drive?

It probably does work fine on any recent UAE. My test UAE is some ancient version of E-UAE, just because I find it convenient and too lazy to update my emulation testbench.
The dump looks fine, the protection track being the same as a dump I got from Denis. The protection check is actually pretty bad. Even though the track is long, counted in MFM bitcells, the check doesn't confirm that. Only that most of the track is 0011 repeated, in GCR timing. I will try writing my IPF to real disk myself tomorrow and see how it looks. |

I sent my dump to Denis, wonder if he's sent you my dump or another?

Okay, I just wrote my IPF using Greaseweazle on an NEC FD1231M (pretty generic "modern" PC drive) and then tested on A500 using TEAC FD-235HF (venerable old PC drive). It worked fine!
Possible issues: 1. Not writing back with Greaseweazle 2. Imperfect media (long track, weird timings, inner track: it's like a worst case) 3. Related to (2) on readback I can see the track really would like to have some precomp. I should implement this as an option in Greaseweazle. But the IPF itself, I think is good. I should test in a more modern UAE now. |
