I would have thought actually playing a game would test if a joystick works or not, or were you sucked in by the little lights on it Plus, is there an LED tester on it just in case any of them have failed and you throw away all your joysticks as bad

Aha! As the Roman poet Juvenal said, who tests the LED testers?

I prefer a sound-based joystick tester over a light-based one since you can hear if the connection is bad or good. A faint/fast flicker on the LED can be hard to spot. Even a small discontinuity on a sine tone is very audible, and many old joysticks have problems with bad switches which may not be easily spotted in gaming but will cause inaccuracies. If you ever noticed that you tend to move the stick more aggressively, then this could be a reaction to the bad switches.

Well, I just got something yesterday - Monkey Island Special Edition Collection:
http://mixnmojo.com/galleries/full/f...0908172207.jpg

And also:
Need for Speed III Hot Pursuit
Freedom Fighters

All for PC and all three for ~£1 at a local flea market.

They are handy for quickly going thru a batch of joysticks to find the working ones and also confirm that repairs to s joystick are successful.

Only $15 for a brand brew unit.

I test joysticks with games. Up down left right fire. All games use it so you could see if joysticks are working or not.

Frequently Unplugging and re plugging joysticks into a live Amiga is a great way to damage it.

Is it battery powered? And why is it so darn BIG?

I can't say I've ever had any issues with any of my Amigas related to joystick plugging/unplugging, and I've plugged/unplugged a lot of joysticks over the years on the same machines while powered on!

Is this one of those Urban Myths How about ESD Diodes on the joystick connector, read that somewhere.

Yes, runs a 9 volt battery and it's not that big, the picture is deceptive.

With my Amiga's approaching 30 years old is rather not take any risks.

Years ago I have programmed one, if you are interested. It is a software joystick tester, could be paired together with your hardware joystick tester

Hey dJOS - if you're happy with it, then that's all that matters. I suppose it is quicker than booting up and loading a game, just to check a joystick... Quicker still if the game's really good and you end up playing it for half an hour!

I built a very similar thing about 25 years ago, following a plan in an electronics magazine. It actually tested 1,2 or 3 fire buttons too, so you could check things like Atari VCS and Mega Drive and what-have-you.

Nailed it mate, the other benefit is it's portable and I don't mind taking it out to my workshop when I'm trying to fix a dud joystick.

Again the d-pad and buttons on this pad are amazing - so it's perfect for emulation when I'm on a train etc.
The holder/clip is very nice! Where did you buy it from? eBay?
Do you have a link?

Also, the bluetooth SNES controller is a new product?

Yeah the SNES controller and clip only came out fairly recently. You can get the clip and all of the other products direct off their ebay store:

http://www.ebay.com/sch/8bitdo/m.htm...1&_ipg=&_from=

or a direct link to just the game clip (which is about £6 but is only for the SNES pads):
http://www.ebay.com/itm/8Bitdo-Xtand...8AAOSwo6lWPbHC

They have a Facebook page too which is where I've been finding out about their latest releases: https://www.facebook.com/8bitdo/?fref=ts

The bluetooth dongle for the controller to work on an actual original SNES/NES is coming very soon too...

I've got a few of their products and they are highly recommended and really well built! I'm hoping they'll do a bluetooth Sega Saturn pad next.

It's basically identical to the original (buttons, dpad, weight etc). I bought a buffalo usb pad a few years ago and although that looked like a good clone it was actually pretty terrible and nothing like the original classic SNES pads. These new bluetooth ones are amazing.

Sorry I know I'm banging on like I work for their company or something but I couldn't recommend these enough (I've got one of their SNES and NES pads). The quality is spot on and the battery life on each charge is about 10 hours.

Lot's of people agree on neogaf... http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1068722

Nice Everdrive!! I've only got a super ufo pro8 as it was relatively cheap but it sadly doesn't play special chip games like sd2snes or the Everdrive.

Those 8bitdo pads look amazing, all of them. Also the arcade stick, it's fucking ridiculous.
I wish they made a version compatible with the classic consoles!
