Hah. It does sounds pretty abstract, when you read it quoted At the moment your base enemies just fly in a straight line (head-on)& there's a lot of them. What I meant is to lower their number but make the movement pattern varied, eg sinusoid or some sinusoid + some head on - or something else entirely (Gradius/Parodius opening stage enemieshave some nice patterms for example).

This would make things a bit more difficult and interesting perhaps.

Ross from this board contacted me about this, since he experienced th same problems, and had a solution for this as well which seems to work on his setup.
Hope it solves it on yours as well. Please gimme feedback on the next demo...
Good to hear. It's nothing major, just that I have an OCD regarding scrolling etc and wanted to know what's up.

Also, one more funny thing: on my second loop-run (after killling the boss once) the second-time boss has disappeared once I got to it. So I was just..being there, floating in that room I guess it don't matter since in the game won't loop after Level 1, but I thought I mention that.

That is actually a metaphor for the meaningless of life that I inserted into the game.

No, also a bug. And it's repaired...

@Steril707 : Here are some issues I have noticed :

1 & 2 : At the beginning of the game only the white star-field is present. About 3-5 seconds later, the others star-fields appear.
3 : enemies auto-explode when reaching the end of the screen (if you don't shoot them).
4 : planet is missing atmosphere.
5 : some strange object is flying (also visible in picture n°3).
6 : when the game loads the first time, a line is blinking under the planet. Also, the screen is not centred as when you play (title screen is higher - you can compare with the other screen-shots).
7 : after some shots, one or two "pink" shots appear.
8 : explosion is "square" which hides part of the enemy.

Also, I once had :
- a GURU meditation after killing the boss (when the game reloads)
- a game freeze while approaching the boss (save state here).

Hope it helps

I tested the game on floppy on my Amiga 500 (+ 512K expansion), Commodore 1084 crt monitor and ktrl32 + as controller.

Using the game with drive gotek, it crashes when loading after the boss.

With the floppy everything smooth.

After the Boss, the game restarts from the beginning of the first level. Is that right?

For the rest, apart from various graphic bugs, it turns well, I agree with those who say that the level of difficulty is too low (I assume it is so to test) and the level is too short for now, as well as the variety of enemies, repetitive enemy patterns.
Nothing that a little finishing can't fix.

However great job well done!

Nice game! Really nice job and very smooth. Will the game have NTSC support? Doesn't seem to even use the whole PAL screen anyway.

Haven't looked into that yet, to be honest.
Seems there are less than 10% of people gaming on NTSC machines from a poll I made a year ago on FB.

That may be true, but some like to run Amiga games with large black borders on the bottom of screen in NTSC mode to fill the screen

I have a working NTSC version here, but be ready for some not so light slowdowns
If you're willing to accept it, I don't think it's a problem for Steril707 to implement the support.

That's the major problem here off course. The game is really running an A500 to its limits.
Maybe not so much of a problem if you have some kind of accelerator running in your NTSC machine, but I don't have any idea how much more oomph you'd need for that.

I believe it's good to have as an option even if there are slow downs.

Well, you have to take into account that there will be people shitting on the game, simply because they experience massive slowdowns and don't understand the reason why.

Just imagine one dumbfuck putting a video on youtube with the game playing like shit and not mentioning the problems are because of NTSC.
Would be like burying the work of three years for me.

Not a situation you want to get into as a developer.

Having finally tried it, I can say I really rather like it
The graphics look even better in "real life" and the sound/music are well done as well. I especially love the robots and that huge gun mounted on the entrance when you enter the base/complex.

Of course, there's always minor things, but most of what I spotted was mentioned already. Just to give my two cents on a few things I think haven't been mentioned yet, then:

The big robots seem to have one collision box. It might be nicer if the size of their collision box changes alongside them when they crouch. Also, I think the game might seem more "alive" if some more enemies fire the odd bullet.

But that is nit-picking, this looks very nice already. Looking forward to the completed game

@Steril707

I get that, you're right. Maybe enable it only via a cheat code then? Just a thought.

Sorry to ask but why?
What's your mindset behind this?
I mean I'd get this request coming from someone from the NTSC region.

Because people 'just want things their way'.
I noticed everybody have their own idea about how a SHMUP should play, sound, and look like.
On the A1K forum I even got into kind of a fight because one fool thought he needed to tell me what kind of music my game needs, even after I told him again and again that it's my game and my decision. Also, it's a matter of taste, and if I'd change everything ever time somebod has an opinion I could stop and throw the game away

After he still didn't stop I told him that the entitlement he was displaying there was really angering me.

I don't have any problem with dissenting opinions, but there really is a point where people really go overboard with how they value their views and shit on yours, the person that worked a couple of years on this project.

Fortunately this hasn't happened here, and neither on FB on my page there.

@Tsak + @Steril707

No, I don't want things "my way". Mainly for the bigger on-screen area, smaller black borders, that's all and it was just a suggestion.

To make it clear, the "fool" as you call him (which is, by the way, very condescending) has made it clear that he didn't want to force anything on you. You reacted there like a toddler whose pudding was taken away. Then you withdrawn childishly from the forum to blaspheme here. Unfortunately miserable.

Incidentally, the user also shook hands more often after noticing that you were upset. And you have been told from several sides that you see it wrong. It looks like you can't handle criticism.

The game coulde be great, no question, but get used to dealing with criticism.
