Hmm. That is weird. I'm not doing anything special here except for a CMQ call to write the fast ram plane into bitplane 4 of the display bitmap pair.
Do you have any funky copy mem patches enabled? |

I'm not at my computer ATM, could you post a binary? The C 020+ version should be the safest to test. It might be best to choose the test or release version of that since the dev build always has weird WIP guff in it.

I wonder if the palette gets messed up somehow. Do the gamma/brightness controls make any difference? How about toggling between full/small or anything else that would trigger a total redraw?

Also, does it do it for a build off the main branch? That would help pinpoint it.

Find attached the release version tkgc_020 binary.
Can someone test it on a real amiga in AGA? @Karlos I can't test your suggestions currently. I do not believe that I have any patches running (but could be wrong) Last edited by abu_the_monkey; 05 July 2024 at 19:30. |

Seems to work fine here on my 1200 with PiStorm. I played through to the second level, plenty of healthly looking text, with full moving pictures, in colour! :-) Seriously, it looked fine. |

I will try and do some more testing tomorrow (when the wife is at work)
glad it is working for someone on a 'real' ish amiga @Angus that was in 2/3 screen size? and defiantly Lowers PAL? maybe its the roms (can't remember what version in my A4000), or sketchy ram sockets, or the CV643D scandoubler, or, or, or... |

No, it wasn't 2/3 screen size. I can check that tomorrow if you like?
It was PAL Low res though. |

Yes, we definitely need 2/3 mode testing since the text is rendered in a completely different way than in fullscreen. It won't be colourful I'm afraid, because I'm writing only 1 bitplane for maximum speed. The idea is not to make AGA any slower.

Hi. Just tried it.. Entered game, hit F10 for 2/3 screen and all was fine. The white text at the bottom reminded me of the old Level 9 adventures, in a good way.
I played through to the third level with no issues. |

So that's a tie breaker situation. Anyone else able to confirm if it works or does not work for them in AGA at 2/3 screen size?

Do you see the in game messages text below the game view? They should be light grey.

Yes, that would be more accurate than the white I mentioned.

The colour isn't super important beyond the fact that I can get it by writing to just one bitplane on the display, for maximum speed on the minimum spec. My assumption here is that AGA 2/3 screen users are on machines that don't need to spend any more cycles than necessary. I render the text once to a fast ram bitplane then copy it twice to the target bitplane in the two screen buffers. I wonder if the blitter might actually do it faster from one buffer to the other, but as this happens at most about one a second, it's probably efficient enough.

@DanyPPC
Is that the same sort of framerate you were getting previously? |

I think what I take from this is that the framerate is basically unchanged, given the margin of error.

The new executable is more strong, framerate interval is better. So I think the new 020 executable is a good result for a 030 machine. |
