Ok, it does seem to be a bit system hungry for a 2D game.

Ok guys, been playing around for the past 2.5 hours with many different options in order to get the "after level 1 / before level 2" cutscene working reliably...
  • I revisited the installation of AHI but there's audio stuttering / slowdowns for say 10 - 20 seconds when the game starts (and that's with "Fastest possible" ticked). I also tried various AHI modes besides "Paula: Fast 8 bit mono" but all were probably worse.
  • I had some success very occasionally with switching off "Fastest possible" but still suffered from audio stuttering / slowdowns for say 10 - 20 seconds when the game starts plus it's just too slow afterwards.
  • I tried ShapeShifter v3.10 as opposed to v3.11.
  • I tried Baslisk II but was horrible just like wairnair said.
  • I tried turning off "Ambient Music On" in the menu.
Anyway, I have now found a way to get the cutscene to load everytime!!!

When you jump onto the ship and the game just sits there; don't press the <Left Mouse Button> in the menu to continue as it will then skip the intro.

Instead press the <MAC Command + M> keys (<Menu + M> keys in Windows); which toggles "Ambient Music On" off / on). Wait for a second and press the <MAC Command + M> keys again

Edit: this <MAC Command + M> keys trick also works if the intro gets stuck.

The game has a half screen mode does this make any difference to the slowdowns?

I don't get any slowdowns in WinUAE when "Fastest Possible" is set

...but to answer your question, no idea.

no idea either BUT the game runs just fine in full resolution otherwise. it's a good game for the not very powerful Amiga graphics hardware as not much is moving on screen at a time

if you have AHI disabled, you probably get a smoother start (much less choppiness) but more bugs e.g. no cutscene

Read my post #422 above my friend

Works everytime!!!

No need for AHI to be installed; it doesn't really make much difference cutscene reliability wise, and actually makes things worse in terms of game slowdowns...

...plus as mentioned, the "<MAC Command + M> keys" trick also helps "unsticking" the intro and cutscene when playing, if this occurs

Added "Crystal Caliburn" to the compilation, which is here.

OS & game hvf's are in the Zone as well.

I like pinball games and I wanted to have a Mac pinball game with high res in the compilation. They suit the joypad well, too.
So I picked one from [ Show youtube player ] compilation , maybe not the best, but it's very small, looks good and it's nice for a quick go.

Now the dark side, it was surprisingly fiddly to extract/update.. and it's not perfect with ShapeShifter either. If you pause the game (by clicking with the mouse) and resume the game it says not enough mem for background music and eventually crashes. There's plenty of RAM (32MB), tried a few mem options in the OS to no avail. So I decided I won't pause the game just play it

Have a look if you feel like.

edit: Tried this pinball on real hw and it's big enough on the tv to see how bad the ball movement is. Eh, I might need to get a different pinball.

How did you turn off the warning after a non-proper shutdown?

Had to go through all options under "Control Panel" until I found it...

Anyway, do this: "Mac" icon --> "Control Panel" --> "General Controls" and then untick "Warn me if computer was shut down improperly":

Just noticed basilisk_pop2.zip in the zone is wairnair experimenting with non shapeshifter mac emulation now? Is it better than Shapeshifter do we know?

in AHI try to set cpu percentage at 15% or less to see if you have no more audio stuttering/slowdown. On real Amiga i always setted in this way and i continue to set also in emulation.

I think you have to install QuickDraw

Currently I don't use / set AHI in any of the MAC .HDFs that have been setup:
  • Alone in the Dark
  • Blackthorne
  • Prince of Persia
  • Prince of Persia 2 - The Shadow & The Flame
  • Warcraft - Orcs & Humans
  • Warcraft II - Tides of Darkness

before reading your reply i add a thing to my preview post about colors with Basilisk II. It is that maybe in that case, i think, need quickDraw installation.

Yeah possibly.

I thought that this would have already been done in wairnair's "PrinceOfPersia2_OS.hfv" already though as it's fine in ShapeShifter.

Basilisk on the Amiga is long abandoned and looks more like a beta to me. Doesn't really work, sadly.

Or does it? @SimonPPC is that Basilisk running on your Amiga?
