My guess is lockups when the frame cap is at 50fps

just want someone to verify that when capped at 50fps it doesn't lockup when
quitting and restarting a level
completing and starting the next

mainly on an AGA LowRes screen mode
but also in RTG screen modes
and that it also works the same when capped at lower frame rates.

Not if I beat you to it!

No, I played to level 3 in AGA on my Pistorm. Getting about 37 fps. All looked fine, apart from that techy dev text at the bottom of the screen.

I think I am lost now what folder to use to apply this update too, I've created so many different folders playing around in various versions that I don't know what one to apply it too...

Any help with what I need to grab from where so I can start from Fresh?

Even so I can grab the modded version and get that updated too would be great

37 FPS sounds a tad low maybe? I'm sure I saw it hitting 50fps in various YouTube videos people have posted.

I don't know, but if I was seeing 37fps, that would mean I had the framerate cap set to 50, right?

seems to work as expected.

seeing anything above 25 fps would indicate that it was set to be capped at 50 fps max.

the drop in frame rate might be because it is the dev and not the release build maybe?

I uploaded a full install of the original game files including the test build to'The Zone!'.

look for 'ab3d2 - game files + dev test build for AlphaAmiga'

unpack it where ever you like and run from the icon.

Tried on my V1200 (haven't played with this for a while) - flies along and hits 50fps for much of the time if I use RTG mode. On AGA low res, sits around 25fps. I could quit and restart levels ok and only did strange things if I picked various (non-compatible) screen modes although at one point I managed to really mess up the screen (possibly by activating some sort of developer cheat?)

Brilliant stuff.

I will upload a few videos from my phone.

By the way, Karlos/Abu that sound effect at 2.23 seconds in, that little 2 note ditty, always happens about there, not a secret of some sort being signposted?

piStorm32 pi4B - Base clock

PAL Low Res - 34-37 FPS on the first level - no obvious signs of any issues

pi VideoCore (RTG) - locked 52fps first level, although walking down the corridor section there are 2 instances where the frame rate dips for a fraction of a second to about 45, but then is straight back up to a locked 52fps - BUT when I press Esc, game freezes, crashes and takes my Amiga with it

(I'm also not sure what the best resolution to run the game in for RTG as using 640x480, but its a square window taking up abut 1/4 the screen, I assuming I'm best creating a screenmode similar to Pal Low Res?)

is the freeze on pressing Esc only happening when in RTG screen modes?
edit: yes you would have to create a 320 x 200 or 240 or 256 screen mode in P96

@Angus

the sound effect is just that. not a secret or anything, probably just to add a but of atmosphere/suspense/panic or wot not.
in the editor you can set sounds to be triggered on entering a 'zone'

ok, maybe need to check if it is in AGA or RTG and only clear the buffer if in AGA?

here is a quick build with a check to skip the extra DisplayMsgPort clear if we are in RTG.

give it a spin and let me know how you get on

edit: it is the release build this time to save any miss haps with dev options, fps counter is still present in top left corner.

Just bear in mind that the display options (full/small, FPS cap, pixelmode) are saved separately for AGA and RTG modes. Or at least I'm sure I made it so that...
