Small update regarding Firestorm:
Apoc G4 cards are running with either 128 or 256 mb. Rapture cards are running with 256 mb. Due to the better power setup no warmup seems to be needed. These cards also run Warp3D with a voodoo card. K1/M1 cards run normal ppc stuff but not yet Warp3D. My sonnet card crashes during setup. It just stops working. Cannot find my backup card... Earlier 1 of the 3 64MB strips already stopped working. Ragnarok not yet implemented but is next on the list. In the meantime, prometheus.library is also updated to support these cards. |

Has anyone heard anything of a Firestorm version of Prometheus for A4000D? Or better yet, a Firestorm Version of a Mediator Bridge ... I'm down to my last unmodified (mostly) A4000D.

Also I am not a big fan of the Mediator design and I would love to be able to use again my internal AGA scandoubler. |

I guess you can try and contact Cosmos through his blog, but he makes no mention of producing more boards for other ppl. There is no link for the A1K, so i guess if he decides to produce boards we will have to wait to see if anything is announced. I believe Hese was working on something, so maybe message him? |

Mmm, mine came without a bracket (not sourced from your ebay links). Seems I need to replace the spare one I used with another one with a bigger vent hole (or simply dremel it bigger). I also had to replace the fan.

Preparing for my imminent AA3000+ (The builder is still joining the DSP "hackaton" ). I'm considering ditching the FastATA which is in my A3000 for a SCSI2SD solution in the AA3000+. However I fear all PCI/Zorro brackets will be taken up by cards so no room for an internal SCSI2SD that exposes it's SD card on the back of the Amiga. I prefer these kind of setups to easily change flash cards.
Would an external SCSI2SD, via the 25pin SCSI connector be fast enough? Especially for the 3D PPC games like Quake, etc? |

The AA3000+ has PCI? News to me! Exciting. Now I need to research this, since my a1200 won’t be suitable for the sonnet stuff.

I have this printed thing that should make it that the SD card is accessible through one of the floppy slits at the front. Not sure if that actually works. The top is always off until now.

The only option that may give you some relief is a SATA to SCSI solution, that will get you as close to 5 mbs on the 3000 SCSI. They are very expensive sadly, and you will need 1.3.4 for the better scsi.device for them to work. I never keep the sd cards rear facing in my one 3k, got used to it. Wish I had better news... |

OK, thanks for the info. Is there a difference in speed between the internal and external SCSI port of the A(A)3000(+). So I may be keeping that FastATA after all then.

There should be no difference in speed between the internal and external.
The fastest you will get from the scsi on the a3000 is 3.5mb/s, either from a scsi harddrive, a SCSI2SD V6 or something like and Acard 7720UW scsi to ide bridge. I have used the latter two in my AA3000+ and both are more than enough for ppc 3d games like quake. If you use the slower scsi2sd v5 or anything else that is only capable for async then you will only get 2mb/s, but that is still fine for games. |
