Of course the game doesn't exist yet, but I doubt everybody read the actual 'news' about it. Just don't put too much into it as it is, whether you like it or not.
Granted, yes, we can't determine any fact about gameplay by looking at this (I did say "hint" ), but 2.5D is definitely what is happening there. Clearly they are 3D rendered graphics, either real-time or pre-rendered, I don't know, but we're not looking at hand-drawn animation like what, for example, Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix has.

Could be great but it looks also very generic.
Besides, Prince of Persia, Another World and Flashback while had good (the latter) to great (the formers) gameplay were special because of their use of rotoscopy, while 3D graphics are in 2013 something very normal and not so natural visually in the animation department.

Kind of agreed, for an indie title it looks pretty slick to be honest. Plus one should first see it move before final judgement.

I'm hoping it doesn't (look like that when it's running). That's not my idea of exploiting HD to best advantage, and that shot does nothing at all to convince me that this remake is going to be any better than the original version.
I have seen this game running, as such the graphics are exactly what you can see here, it is not a fake, it s real. Akira, i dont know what makes you think it s just a rumour ?

I think it looks amazing and could be great if analogue sticks are used for aiming, whilst keeping the movement controls similar to the original game.
My only problem is that if this doesn't turn out well for any reason then it has tarnished the Flashback name. I also hate the fashion of remaking old games because they can't think of anything new or they want to stick to a "safe" format. Prime examples include Sonic and Lemmings on mobile phones - neither work on mobiles (or atleast the ones I played).

I wish them luck and hope it does become a hit. Does anyone know the target platforms, or should I just assume that it's for one (or all) of these: PC, XBox 360 and PS3?

half the battle was dropping down to a lower level to "take out" the enemy, imho if you can now aim from the platform above that takes some of the puzzle or risk element away

the hud looks abit strange being at an angle.. i get the point for something like halo, but a 2d platformer (does flashback need one?)

if the foliage sways and has real time shadows then thats good and dynamic shadows on the player would be good

apart from that it looks ok

i suspect an iOS port also

I'm still fervently hoping the release version won't arrive looking like that!

unfortunately, i'm afraid you will have to cope with that :P It targets xbox360 and PS3.

Pc dev is not planned, because it's too expensive to support all the gfx boards out there.

One the positive side, it's being developed by the original creators (Paul Cuisset or something) and his team. On the bad side to that again, is that their last game was AMY, a horror game which recieved disasterously low scores from reviewers (2/10 from EG for example).

You can add games such as Fade to Black or Shaq Fu to his gameography :
http://www.mobygames.com/game/fade-to-black
http://www.mobygames.com/game/snes/shaq-fu

To be fair here is the whole list:
http://www.mobygames.com/developer/s...eloperId,1573/

I don't know if he worked on it, but I had already found the graphics of Flashback Legends to be overdone:
http://www.unseen64.net/articles/fla...beta-analysis/

As I can't stand Depth of Field and most of the similar supposedly "realistic" post-processing effects, the screenshot is rather repulsive to me.

I will still wait to see it running to have a definitive opinion, but, as I don't own a Xbox 360 nor a PS3, I have the feeling that it won't be this game that will bring me to buying one .

Also bad music. 'Spatial Hyperdrive' level may be fun.

It's Flashback. In HD. And looks fantastic.

Looking forward to this release (no confirmed date of yet I notice) and hope it doesn't lose any of it's original gameplay which, judging by the trailer, doesn't appear to; apart from noticing that it's not a flip-screen affair. I liked the feeling of not knowing what's coming next when played for first time. Just my opinion.

Await with baited breath...

1:06 onwards: "What have you done agent Conrad B. Hart?"

He is an agent now?

From what I remember (memory sequence in level 2) he was simply a student with the density monocular (or whatever) being the focus of his thesis.

I feel a silly plot ahead

Weird, my version of the game never came with the manual .

Thanks for pointing it anyway.
Still, my memories are correct and the sequence I mentioned states: "The end-of-year thesis"
01:14 on:
[ Show youtube player ]

DOS version but I am pretty sure it was the same for the Amiga version.

I guess you can be an agent and do a end-of-year thesis... But I thought the student idea fit better, explaining why he was rather alone in his fight.

Edit: Apparently, they made a comics to tell the immediate story preceding the game. It is available in the Genesis manual that you can get here:
http://replacementdocs.com/download.php?view.69

It does seem that Conrad is indeed both an agent and a student so I guess the Galaxial Bureau of Investigation is partly an academic institution.

Just after the comics, the Genesis manual states:
"You are Conrad Hart graduate student, agent of the G.B.I. (Galaxial Bureau of Investigation) and overall cool dude."

Funny to learn some new stuff so many years after playing the game for the first time.
