Indeed, the Wings of Death and Lethal Xcess music is really good. Especially the title tracks.

The title tunes of Powermonger and Rings of Medusa are really nice. I like the medieval touch of both.

1. Shadow of the Beast
2. Dune
3. Monkey Island
4. Battle Squadron
5. Golden Axe

When I type this I can't ignore Lotus, Gods, Speedball 2, Agony, Blood Money, Powermonger, Populous, IK+ and so many more. It's good I'm moving into my new house very very soonish so that I've got room to set up my amiga again even if it was only for the music of many games

The first games that come to mind for me are -

* Turrican 2
* Lotus series
* It Came from the Desert (the music in this game is used extremely well, creates an incredibly strong atmosphere)

That's true, just like the Elvira music in the garden area.

It was the first time I heard a whole "real" song done on the Amiga. Usually the most you would hear was a short loop from a song like Pump Up The Volume or (as in Interphase..great game btw) She Drives Me Crazy. Or you would hear a reindition of a known song like Axel F but done with basic instrument samples.

it was done completely with samples from the original (by Bomb The Bass, I think it was called 'Megablast') from start to finish, and it used lots of really clever sampling and tracking techniques to save memory.

At the time I don't think it had been done before.

If you know of other tunes done in the same way and from before Xenon II, I would love to hear (about) them!

Apart from the title, I don't see how Beast 1 can be rated above Beast 3 - absolutely speaking.
Beast 3 has so many variations, and the tracks are all masterful IMO.

R-type is eclipsed by Super R-type, and totally destroyed by R-type 3 (both SNES).
