No Commodore-endorsed crippleware like Apple did with iOS v1 to split the platform.

This is technically possible, but for any serious commercial application usually not a possibility.

It's fairly trivial to build your application in something like Flutter and generate builds for Web, Desktop, Android, iOS etc.

But you rarely do without extensive code changes, or giving up and maintaining separate applications for each platform.

The reason is UX; you use a small handheld device differently then a Desktop (or even a Tablet), and this is a far larger problem to solve than just 'scaling' and basic 'reactive UI' solutions. You need to sit down and design and think through how an actual application is going to be used and architect for it.

Mac OS 9 was the best, IMHO. I remember it was quite fast, stable and clean.

I don't really agree with the doom and gloom. Mac is better than it has ever been OS wise and the M1 hardware and beyond is super exciting.

Ironically for all the complaining about OSX being too much like IOS, there's still too many barriers between the two.
