A few additional findings regarding the RawInput method versus DirectInput.

Tested 4 different controllers. With DirectInput they all work, out of the box or via remapping. With RawInput 3 work, out of the box or via remapping, 1 has issues.

The following controllers work with RawInput:
- Stelladapter 2600-to-USB Interface (with my old '80/'90's Suzo arcade joystick attached)
- X-Arcade Board
- Original Super Nintendo gamepad attached through MayFlash adapter
Note: the above controllers do not need any custom Windows drivers.

The following controller has issues with RawIput but not with DirectInput:
- PS2 Controller through TigerGame/MayFlash PS/PS2 Game Controller Adapter

For this controller the default setting works out of the box: the analog stick is used for direction and one button is assigned for fire. What doesn't fully work is remapping buttons to use the D-Pad on the controller. The remapping itself works, but in the game when you move you can't shoot at the same time (directional move takes precedence). Second problem is that when moving in a direction or using the fire-button, occasionally it gets 'stuck' moving in that direction, or continually firing. With DirectInput this problem does not occur.

The TigerGame PS/PS2 Game Controller adapter is the only of the 4 controllers listed that has a custom Windows driver installed (provided by the manufacturer).

It is strange that HID USB device needs a driver, unless it is used to configure some special feautures?

Attach 2 winuaebootlog.txt files. One using rawinput test version and another using official 2.3.2.

The product description and most specs of the adapter are listed on the MayFlash website here. Download page has a Windows7 driver download, dated October 2009 (also installed on my PC). The adapter has a number of special features. Amongst others support for autofire function for all buttons, pressure sensitive button support for PS2 controller, racing wheel and dance mat (not used by me though )

No specific idea. They don't map to any of the button or analog stick movements on the pad...

They seem to be related to motion sensoring features. At least for a PS3 pad they seem to be if I may believe this page. Wouldn't know how that would map to this adapter though.
