between learning how to rip sprites and I take the time to do it, someone who knows how to do it could help me to rip the Desert Strike helicopter please? I'm playing a bit with a Desert Strike engine and it would be great to use that great Apache. thanks in advance.

it is not easy to rip the sprites from the game...
every sprite (technically not sprites, more blitter objects) has different height and width. I've attached some sprites...I've already got around 116 BOBs so far...and there are still many left... |

Can't download this from where I am(dangerous site/warning/etc.)
Is there a chance to put the gfxrip content of the site somewhere like the zone ? (http://retrospec.sgn.net/game-links.php?link=gfxrip) |

I just tried to rip sprites from Fire & Ice but no lucky. I still can't find the right palette. My goal was this Cool Coyote.
I decided to rip this character sprite in the easiest way - by using UAE. Everything went smoothly hoever there is only one problem: the size of this sprites is too big. I do not know if there is any easier way Here you have a sample for comparison and this blue Toucan on the right is a failed rip (bad palette) The gate, I think is ok. |

This job went pretty smooth with Maptapper. The palette looks right to me (color0 changed on purpose). The main trouble is the heights varied from 12 to 48 pixels. Once the first sprite is located drop to 32 rip width and 12 rip height. The bpl height overrides rip height so the pink area can shrink. For every coyote save the sprite pair, scroll to the next one and adjust height until the planes mesh properly.
Use Irfanview batch to make canvas 32x48 for all 66 then make panorama to stitch them all together. Make a binary map file 0,1,2...65. Use that along with the long strip in Maptapper to produce the sheet. EDIT: Coyote tail sprites come after. They're 16x20 + or -. Toucan is not a sprite. 4 plane+mask ilbm. It came out OK. Wow, you rock! I knew that this program can do it! I did not expect this. I thought nobody would ever rip-off this amazing sprite
I will try to do something with Maptapper.. anyway I'm glad that finally someone did it. Thanks a lot, clenched! |

Another sheet: Toucan level, different palette. Anchor point for resize canvas at bottom and contrasting color.

Nice! There are still other frames from the second stage. I checked the frames and it works great I noticed that the tail is separated. Why? Because the tail is pinned to the Hero (every time) so when you crouch and you go down from the hill or you falling down - the tail animation will start and loop again.
I made some gif Last edited by Maximo2010; 04 April 2019 at 20:50. |
