was sick yesterday, but made the test today. Well it appears that the trace machine
3.5" drive is dead. I must check if another drive could do the trick.

Uh oh... Hopefuly only the drive is dead... good luck finding a replacement. Does the manual state what kind of drive you should build in?

I remember using one of these old machines back in the day and I seem to recall it was a modified Sony Floppy Disk Drive, I can't recall which model but it matched some of the ones that were used in many of the external Amiga Drives, I think an MPF something or other....

Good luck in getting this machine going again

Yes it's a PC sony drive that i have inside

I have some spared Sony MFP-XXX drives hehehe, so well, let's see how it behaves !

The controler/loader indicates me that the DRIVE FAILS. There is 3 buttons on it, one called 1) EXPLAIN and 2) YES and 3) NO

The drive is not mechanicaly OK it doesn't react when i launch the tracer).

Nice to know I remembered something about that machine from days of yore

If I remember correctly, the drive just has it's front faceplate removed so the loader mechanism can feed diskettes properly.

I think it was also mounted on a guide plate so the drive can be removed for replacement.

My guess is that the drive is worn out but there is no way to know for sure without replacing it and testing further.

I would also suggest checking out any PALS/GALS and firmware EPROMS too, carefully remove any that are in DIP Sockets and check the pins for corosion, clean if neccessary and reinstall said chips back into their sockets.

Of course do this with the power cord unplugged...

Ok, does the drive you removed from the machine show a definitive model number?

Did they actually use special drives? I'd say they used standard drives, maybe modded them, but can't see what they'd want to mod on a 3.5" drive...

Synth manufacturers did much the same with their designs, to make things 'proprietry' so you would be forced to pay their excessive charges for a new drive.
